ALEXIA's POV
"I believe in nothing but the beating of our hearts. I believe in nothing but the truth in who we are.."
Listening to some musics always cheer me up. I remembered my dream of becoming a rockstar. Now I just laugh at it, will it come true? Maybe not. Together with Eugene and Lizzie, we formed a band. A band that was never in harmony, we never had a time to practice or even try. Now I wished we did that, because we can't turn back time.
Summer vacation and I don't know what to do, graduation passed so quickly that I hadn't even realized that I'm already a HighSchool graduate. And that anytime now, I'll be off to college.
Eugene is fine, he's a lot more better now. I decided not to go to the Senior Ball, because I think it's a waste of time.
This is my last week here in this small town. I Finally made up my mind where to study, I know Eugene won't be with me. Our plans now changed, and I don't know what's going on between the two of us. And if there is still an us.
....
Luckily Jeanne allowed me to visit their house, finally! Someone opened the front door, welcomed me in to their home. I really don't know who she is..
"Aunt Jeanne, someone is here." The girl said.
"Oh, Alexia it's you. So nice to see you again."
"Thanks Jeanne."
"Alexia, this is Cecilia. She's a childhood friend of Eugene."
"Nice to meet you Cecilia, I'm Alexia... Eugene's..uhm..close friend." Damn! I really don't know what to say. Am I still his girlfriend?!
Cecilia accompanied me to Eugene's room. I feel uncomfortable with Cecilia, I feel like I should be the one doing that. I should be the one taking care of Eugene. Finally she left us. Me and Eugene are finally alone.
"Hi, Eguene. I don't know if you can still remember the last time you saw me, I'm sorry if I freaked you out."
"I should be the one sorry, it's not your fault. Trust me, I'm trying my best to remember everything."
"It's alright, you've got plenty of friends who will be there to help you. I'm here to help you Eugene."
"Yeah, Cece takes care of me for three days now. Cece's been a great help of helping me remember my childhood years."
"Cece?? I remember you telling me stories about Cece and you when you were kids. It was a pretty adventurous childhood you had with Cece."
"Oh I did? Yeah, she's hilarious when we were kids. You've met her, right? She's downstairs."
"Oh, Cecilia is Cece?"
"Yeah, now she wants to be called Cecilia."
After all this years that I've known Eugene, he never mentioned Cece of being a girl. All the while I thought Cece is a boy. Now I've got competition. The childhood friend he remembers vs. the girlfriend who he can't even remember.
Just as I was about to say something, Jeanne entered the room.
"I'm sorry Alexia, I think you have to go now. The specialist is here and Eugene needs to take some rest."
"Oh, Mom. She just got here. Can't she stay any longer?"
"It's fine Eugene, I'll just see you sometime, maybe."
Before I can walk out of the room, I felt Eugene's hand in mine. HIs touch, I've been longing for this.
"I need to make it up to you Alexia, please. I missed a lot, and I'm sorry."
...
I start the engine of my car, don't know where exactly I'm going. Then tears started rolling down my face. Good thing no one can see me. I decided to stop by the Nursing Home. I need to say my goodbyes to Mr. Park and the to the other volunteers. It was hard saying goodbye to those people who helped you to to move on.
Jeff is nowhere to be found, even his mother.
Vanessa is busy preparing for College.
These are the times when I need a friend.
...
"Are you sure about this sweetie?"
"Yes Mom."
"There's no turning back, I can't believe my daughter is leaving tomorrow."
"Relax Mom, I'll be back in Spring Break."
Tears stream down in the face of my mother. She hugged me tightly then whispered me these words "Be strong Alexia, past is past. We will move on, and live."
...
I'll be traveling a three hour drive all by myself. First I need to say goodbye to someone. I headed straight to the cemetery.
"Hey Lizzie, this is it. I'm finally going off to college. I miss you and please always be here in my side. I know you won't leave me."
I try to hold back my tears, in my hand I'm holding a pink rose. I gently lay it down in Lizzie's grave. Pink roses are her favorite. "Goodbye my friend. I'll be back.Soon"
A part in my mind says that I should atleast say goodbye to Eugene. But if I do that, I'll only feel sad and guilty for leaving him.
My phone was ringing non-stop, I answered it.
"Alexia? It's me Jeff."
"Hey, where you've been?"
"That's not important, where are you? Is it true you're leaving already?!"
"I'm still here at the cemetery, and yes I'm leaving the town and but I'll be back."
"I'm so sorry Alexia, I feel bad leaving you within your last week here. When will I see you again?"
"I'll be back Jeff. Heck, you can visit me there, it's just a three hour drive."
