RONNIE'S POV

Year 1920-

"Oh come on, the fun is only starting!" Allison slurs as I follow after her as she walks along the crowded streets of New Orleans.

She is so beautiful, her long blonde hair is in loose curls that cascade over her shoulders and down her back, the beaded blue dress she has on makes her legs look so long and fits her small frame perfectly.

If only I where that pretty, maybe than I would find a man to at least dance with me. I think back to the club and how badly I wish to hear the jazz there; don't get me wrong the streets are pulsing with music, it's dripping out from every bar and building to fill with all different kinds of people. They all gather to dance with one another, letting the music move them as if we are all under the influence of some heavy liquor.

Closing my eyes briefly, I listen. I don't dance or move.

All the instruments working together and all the songs coming together to fill the silence with a buzz, as if the music was bringing the city to life. It hums in me like how my blood pumps through my veins, it makes me smile.

As I am listening, someone bumps into me; I almost fall forward but a hand reaches out and holds to their chest.

"I'm sorry!" I girl says from behind me, but my heart is pounding hard as I feel the heart in the chest in front of me.

It is deep and loud, slightly fast but not as fast as mine. I glance up and to my surprise my heart beats even faster. His hair is slicked back and he is in a nice suite. He looks at me though as if he knows me, as if I'm so much more than what I am.

"I-I'm sorry." I stutter and push myself away from his chest.

He stands there and looks at me, the emotion in his eyes trying to tell me a story; but before I can figure it out, the girl who must have bumped into me comes in front of me and grabs y shoulders. Blocking my sight of the man.

"Are you alright? I'm so sorry I was dancing and got a little too excited." She blushes.

"I'm alright." I give her a kind smile, my eyes glancing back to the man who must be hers.

I look at the girl more carefully and I'm stunned.

She has bright red hair and crystal blue eyes, her lip stick a dark blood like red.

"How rude of me, I'm Ashley and this is my brother Elex." she moves to the side of me and motions to him with her hand, he walks forward and asks from my hand.

Hesitantly I give it to him, he leans down and brings his lips to my knuckles; my breathing hitches as his lips connect with my skin and I can feel the slight tingle of his breath against my skin before the small pressure of his soft lips. His eyes flicker up to mine before he lets go of my hand and stands there silently again.

For a moment, My heart leaps; it jumps and butterflies explode in my stomach as if I am seeing a lover for the first time in a long time.

"Are you a dancer?" I shake my head slightly at the sound of Ashley's voice and look at her.

"Yes I am."

"No way, I will be to starting tonight!" She cheers and jumps up and down clapping her hands.

"That's wonderful, congratulations. Where will you be dancing?" I ask, trying not to let my eyes wonder to Elex as he looks at me with no hesitation.

"The Flamingo."

My full attention goes to her now, "That is where I dance too."

"No way?! Oh I'm so happy, I already made a friend brother; isn't this fate?"

Elex looks at her for a moment, "Seems so." Then his eyes go straight back to me.

"We should start that way, unless you are off tonight?" Ashley asks me.

"No, I was heading that way as well." I smile at her as she explodes with a huge smile before grabbing my hand and linking arms with me as the three of us start to walk towards the club.

I feel Elex walking behind us, making my heart beat fast knowing that he is just a few inches away from me, his heavy foot steps cut through all the music making it hard for me to focus on anything else.

When we get into The Flamingo it is a full house, all he waiters and staff in a buzz to get the customers their drinks. Elex breaks away from us and takes a seat at a small table in the back with low lighting, a waiter going to him immediately to get him a drink.

I walk to the back with Ashley, all the other dancers getting into costume; I slip away from her as the manager goes to her explaining the routine. Allison waves to me in her mirror, I ave back glad that she got her safely.  As I get to my mirror, I slip off my dress and slip into my costume with red fringe and a tight beaded top. A head band with a red feather to match, Ashley comes finds me and she is in a similar costume but in white.

"I'm so nervous." She says, peaking out at the awaiting crowd.

"You don't need to be, I say getting into place behind the heavy velvet curtain.

"Why?" She asks as she gets into place and takes her pose.

I smile at her, feeling the low buzz start to play from the band on the other side of the stage.

"Forget who is watching and just listen to the music. Let it move you." I smile, my heart beating fast realizing that someone in the crowd will be watching me closely. Someone who I just met, yet he as so much in his glaze that I wonder if we have met before.

As the curtain rises, I look out at the crowd; but as if we are connected by unseen magnets, our eyes lock.
