I got off of Moxy's bunk, planning to climb up onto my own. No one was saying much. Raven started rummaging around in one of the dressers. I noticed they were labeled with our names and decided to go through mine, hoping it would take my mind off of what just happened. Izzy and Lucy followed suit, Moxy laying on her bed, staring blankly at the bottom of my bunk. Inside the dressers, we all seemed to have two sets of clothing made out of what looked like a burlap sack, but had a nice texture to them. There was a small bottle of shampoo and one of conditioner and a small bar of soap, reminiscent of what hotels provided. There was also a toothbrush and toothpaste, a notepad, a pencil, and a weird spherical device with a red button set into it, the top of the button being flush with the rest of the metallic outside. On the floor next to the dressers were what looked like running shoes, and on top of the dresser was a laminated sheet of paper. I picked it up. It listed all of the items that were in the dresser and what they were for. Apparently the ball was an emergency call device and we were advised to keep it with us at all times. I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out why it was spherical, nor did I understand why it was so large if we were to carry it around all the time. I was jolted out of my dull thoughts by Raven.
"I'm going to shower now, if no one minds." xyr voice was monotone. We all nodded agreement, everyone low energy, and Raven took xyr shampoo, soap, and a set of clothes through the door in the back. The sound of the water was extremely loud in the silence of the cabin. I sat down on the floor, staring at the door and slowly coming out of my complete shock. Moxy came and sat down next to me and took one of my hands. It was strange, but it was also comforting.
"I'm sure he'll be fine." Moxy muttered.
I nodded. "I don't want to think about it."
"Is... is it bad that I want to forget it? To forget him?" Izzy asked. I shook my head no, feeling the same way. Izzy and Lucy joined Moxy and me on the floor.
"Gods, I could shoot up right now." Lucy muttered.
"Lucy!" Izzy exclaimed, aggressively punching her twin in the arm.
"Fuck. Oh gods... Fuck I- I'm sorry man. It's just... stressful." I stared at Lucy in surprise, wondering how such a tiny and soft spoken girl could've ever gotten into hard drugs. Izzy wrapped her arms around Lucy as Lucy began crying.
The door swung open without warning and a Nurse poked her head in, counting heads. Moxy moved quickly and stealthily enough so that she was counted twice.
"We're missing one." the Nurse said.
"Xe's in the bathroom." Izzy said, still comforting Lucy. The Nurse nodded and, giving Izzy and Lucy a weird look, left.
"When do checks stop?" Moxy asked.
"Ten." I replied.
"We wait fifteen minutes after ten and then we'll go." Moxy decided. I nodded in agreement.
"We shouldn't all go, though. It'll be more obvious with more people. I think only two should go, and I think it should be you two." Izzy said, referring to Moxy and me. We looked at each other and nodded. Raven opened the door to the bathroom and with xyr came steam.
"It's a nice shower. There's even a chair in there."
"I'm gonna go shower and then I would appreciate it if someone could help cut and dye my hair. It's only eight thirty, so we should have time." As she entered the shower, I wondered how she knew the time until Raven checked the spheric thing that was supposedly the emergency call device. I pulled mine out and, studying it, realized there were many other, smaller buttons set into it. I played around with the buttons, finding the time, the date, an alarm, and, to my surprise, it sprung open and around my wrist like a watch when I touched a black square next to the red emergency button. I showed the others how to do so as well, and we all wore them.
