Despairation

This poem was inspired by a friend of mine, who is dealing with some bad stuff.

Despairation

The obsidian hallway lays in front of you, scoffing

At your fear.

The end so obscure, it seems unobtainable.

A cold sense of dread befalls you, as you come to realize

The only way to go is forward.

Forward, into the dark, unknown.

Forward into the oblivion you face.

Slowly, creeping inch by inch, you make your way.

Reluctant to move forward, but unable to move back.

And after an eternity, it seems, you see a light.

A tiny pin point that seems to grow.

Frantic you chase after it, desperate

To escape the smothering darkness

Your eyes never accepted.

But as it had seemed to get closer before, now it fled you as you fled the hallway.

Faster you sprinted, arms straining in front of you to catch the golden spark.

But it ran from you just as fast as you ran for it.

Further and further away you got, until it was but a speck in the distance,

Then you realized.

Stopping in your tracks you turned,

And with wide quavering eyes you look behind you.

From whence you came you were able to see,

At the end of the long distant hallway you just traversed,

A small, wavering light.

And then, it blinked out,

Leaving you in total darkness and despair,

Your desperate dash for naught.
