el sighed, slumping down into the bathroom stall. she had to leave class multiple times due to the channeling. it was getting worse.

today, el woke up and couldn't breathe. she had lain in bed, struggling to inhale. she knew she looked terrible. the make-up she had from nancy did little to help her hide the sickness. some of her teachers asked if she was okay. so she lied. "i'm fine," she would say with a forced smile.

and her friends. max. max was so kind to el. it turns out they had about half of their classes together. max was always so cheerful and bright. el felt guilty that she was leading max on. max was the first true girl friend she had. they had hung out so much, growing closer.

mike. mike. god, she loved him so much that it hurt. it genuinely hurt to see him struggle to help her. she hated feeling dependent on him. she had to end it before he hurt himself further. she could hear his internal struggle. he heard this lure to a knife. why, she didn't know, but she knew that he had come so close to it, picking up a knife, and from there, it had gotten blurry. she had asked him about it, but he never answered, merely going around the question.

and the gang: dustin and will and lucas. they were becoming her friends. she was closest to dustin. they would always get together and eat, whether it be pudding or chips or candy. lucas was her deep friend. if she ever needed something, she would go to him. will was her humorous friend. they always had fun, pranking others or telling jokes. she loved her friends.

unfortunately, she still had no idea who was channeling her. if she had to guess, she would say another experiment. possibly ten. ten was another girl who was trained like eleven. they were supposed to be a power duo, and they were friends, yet eleven had heard that ten died. but what if ten wasn't dead? what if it was ten who was trying to come back from the dead?

eleven exhaled, wiping her nose. she fixed her wig and smiled at herself, repeating two words that meant everything yet nothing.

you're fine.
