"who are you?" mike asked, gripping her arm.

jane gasped, pulling out of his grasp and yanking her sweater sleeve back.

"outside," she pleaded, and he nodded. she silently grabbed the textbook as they went outside.

"who are you?"

"my name is jane ives, and eleven is my- she's basically me."

"what?"

"i am eleven from an alternate universe."

"are you the one trying to kill her?" mike accused.

jane backed away. "i have no powers. in my world, i wasn't experimented on. i grew up normally until dr. brenner and his team took me away. they somehow managed to open the gate or portal between these worlds. eleven is an alternate version of me."

"so you're normal?"

"as normal as being in an alternate world is. where's eleven?" jane asked.

"i- she died," he thickly said, wishing he could take it all back when he saw the horrified look on jane's face.

"oh my god, eleven," she gasped. "they- i- i can't go back home now."

"excuse me? you learn your alternate self died, and all you can think about is going back home?" mike snapped.

"because i had to find eleven! they wouldn't let me go without her. i needed her."

"you didn't need her," he sneered. "the government needed her."

"no, i-" jane suddenly dropped her textbook. she bent down to pick it up when she fell to her knees.

"jane?" mike worriedly asked.

"help," she whispered as she fell forward, and the pavement rushed up to meet her.
