el dragged mike into the bathroom, locking the door. "i want to do more quotes."
"more? el we don't have time for this stupid thing."
"mike," el started. "i know the symp- the sympu-"
"symptoms," mike supplied. el still didn't know large words which was awkwardly adorable.
"symptoms of this. i know that i'm getting worse. i don't think i'll ever find who's doing this to me. i want to do this," el strung together sentences. sometimes, mike forgot just how far she had come from knowing three words: no, mike, and help.
"el, i can save you, there's gotta be a way," mike pleaded, grabbing her hands.
"mike, i can't- you can't save me. i have no idea where anything is, or who could even be doing this to-" el stopped abruptly, clutching at her chest.
"el!" she choked and ran to the stall, throwing up into the toilet. "babe, you okay?" mike tentatively asked.
she wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. weakly standing and walking to the sink, she washed her hands slowly.
"please don't question me when i say that i want to do quotes."
"her smile was like armor, and everyday she went to war," mike blurted. el faintly smiled, clutching onto the sink.
"his arms were home," el replied. mike grabbed her and pulled her into a hug, and she finally allowed herself to break down.
tears ran down her cheeks, and he was pretty sure that she could have drowned the world with how hard she was crying. each sob broke his heart. he desperately tried to memorize the feel of her, how she was so much smaller than him, but he loved that. he loved slipping his larger hand into hers, blushes covering both of their faces.
el finally pulled back, wiping at her eyes.
"have i ever told you how much i love you?"
"no."
"well, i love you to the moon and back."
"so what color are you wearing on saturday? since i guess we should match."
"to the snowball? i wasn't asked to the snowball," el confusedly said. mike's eyes widened. he had forgot to ask her.
"well, go to the snowball with me?" mike asked, tilting his head and making puppy-dog eyes.
"i can't believe you forgot to ask," el softly chided. "but yes, i'll go, only because i like you so much."
