I walked into the locker room and saw April changing out of her light blue scrubs. Her scrub cap was on the bench and she was only in her bra, which I deeply frowned upon because this was a unisex locker room.
“April,” I scolded. “Alex or Rick or Lucas could walk in at any second and you are giving them a strip show.”
“They’re all in surgery. Alex has an aneurism, Rick has a hip replacement and Lucas is removing a brain tumour.”
“Hmm, fine.”
“Oly invited us to a party that the girls are throwing before they leave for Newcastle,” April told me.
“Where at?”
“Umm somewhere in London. I have the address on my phone. Anyway hurry up and get ready we need to go home and change before going to the party and we need to be at the party by seven.”
I threw on a black, drop dress and put on some nude, ankle boot heels after my shower. I let my hair fall out in waves where it reached my mid back and then focused on my make up. I put on foundation, bronzer and then put some mascara and eyeliner on my eyes. I put on some red lipstick and grabbed my black coat with tan fur trimmings.
“I’m ready!” I called out to April as I shoved my hands into my coat.
“Okay, let’s go,” she said walking into my room.
“Alright then,” I said grabbing my purse. “You look great, by the way.”
She was wearing a white, lace dress that hugged her beautiful body and she had a black coat over the top.
“Ditto. You know the party is at one of the girls’ house? Can you imagine how elegant and big it’ll be?”
“April we grew up in the most elegant mansion, does it really matter and besides what if they like the modern look better?”
“Hmm,” I said as April locked the door and we made our way to the elevator. “Did you hear that Rick and Rose are together?”
“Yeah, I hope they last. Rick better not screw her up.”
“If he does we’ll bash him,” I said and April giggled as we walked into the elevator.
“You were late last night,” April stated and I knew she was fishing.
“I stayed over a friends,” I said stiffly and she pursed her lips and nodded knowing what I actually meant.
“You weren’t joking about keeping your one night stands,” she said bitterly.
“Oh come on! Don’t be like that. I do what I have to do to stop myself getting distracted.”
“But one bad relationship doesn’t mean they’ll all be bad,” April said, “But whatever it’s your life, you’re twenty six for god’s sake. It’s your life and I’ll always be by your side because I’m your sister and I love you but I just want you to know that what you are doing is wrong and unethical.”
She walked off the elevator leaving me dumbfounded. I knew what I was doing was wrong but it was better than getting in a relationship. No strings, no drama. That was my rule and it worked. It always worked.
