For our brooding and mysterious Adam Marx, Xavier Samuel. Fits the description of mysterious, right? :)
CHAPTER TWO
She smiled at me, Adam thought during his sixth period Physics class, playing with the pen in his hand, a small, secret smile on his face. He could see few - no, mostly - his classmates, especially the girls, gawking at him, not even being subtle about not listening to the teacher. He just gazed blankly in front of him, ignoring all those stares and malicious thoughts around him. Instead, his mind went off thinking about that encounter earlier.
He didn't expect her reaction at all, and he didn't even expect how he would respond to it. Adam was just there, sitting quietly by himself in the cafeteria, playing with his food, not paying attention to anything in particular. Then he suddenly sensed it, a familiar pink and gold glow that warms his insides. A glow he haven't experienced in years.
And there she was, a few feet away from him.
Rose Brooks.
It really is Rose, no doubt about that. Last time he saw her in her bedroom, she was asleep and he couldnt see her face properly, but now, it was like a bright light white blinded his eyes. Blinded in a good way. In the first time, he truly saw what she looked like now.
That dark brown hair tumbling into waves behind her back, not anymore the bouncy curls. That heart-shaped face that was still unblemished, but had deep dark circles under them, as if she didn't get enough sleep. He still can't see her eyes by then, but when he caught her staring at him, he drowned in them.
The same dark chocolate eyes, framed by thick lashes. Eyes that showed everything, held everything in place. Before there was an innocence of a child, but now, it says she's matured and smarter than she was before.
Adam's day was already perfect by that first encounter, when their gazes locked. But his heart spilled with greater joy when she smiled at him. She smiled at me. Just a timid smile, not showing a full beam, but it was enough. More than enough. He couldn't help smiling back. And it amazed him that he even made her blush, making her look even more beautiful.
Adam continued daydreamin in his seat, but not showing it. He was good at hiding things to himself. But he can't get those awful thoughts out of his head. Girly mental screams. Ugh. He hated them. Girl chatter. Never understood them. And guys' thoughts even joined them.
Maybe I should go talk to him after class... He needs someone to show him around...
Tall? Check. Dark? Uhmmm... not so, but dark and mysterious, so yes! Handsome? DEFINITELY!
...going to kick his ass and stuff that head in a toilet if he even dares talk to Jamie...
Go to hell, kid. Rose's mine.
That thought made him turn his head to the side, looking for the person who thought it. It was that guy Rose is with during lunch, the guy being pushy and close to her, when she clearly was being uncomfortable. Adam didn't know his name, but he remembers his face. Narrow face, blue eyes the color of sapphires glaring back at him, and dark hair. The guy didn't stop glaring at him from where he sat at the other end of the room.
Adam looked away quickly from him and faced the board. He didn't really know what the deal was with that guy, but he could feel a sort of possesiveness around the edges of his mind. Like he didn't want even an inch of Adam to be near Roselyn.
The bell rang and Adam quickly got up to his feet, shoving his books inside his bag. Around him, girls marched forward and circled him. He felt a little claustrophobic. All he wanted was to get out and run.
