CHAPTER FIVE

“You really screwed up, Adam.” A voice said sternly behind him.

Adam groaned in exasperation, throwing his hands up in the air and flung himself down on the couch, covering his face with his fists. “Don’t remind me, Allie.”

A tall strawberry blond girl sat down by Adam’s feet, her thin hands going placed lightly on his ankles. She looked down at him in frustration, her sapphire blue eyes glowing. “Well, even if I didn’t, it would still be there. You blow up, Adam.”

He groaned even louder and sat up, shaking his head and running a hand through his hair frustratedly. He narrowed his eyes at the beautiful girl beside him. “I shouldn’t have done it… I couldn’t control myself that time.”

The girl named Allie patted his arm, her stern expression softening a little, making her even more beautiful. “I know that it’s hard for you. I’ve been with you for I-don’t-know-how-many years already. And never did I saw you leave your eyes off her since you first laid your eyes at her. Exactly seventeen years ago, if I can recall.”

Adam said nothing and took Allie’s hand in his, playing with her slim and painted fingers. He saw that familiar diamond ring on her ring finger. He had an identical ring like hers. A reminder of who they really are.

“Is Roselyn avoiding you since it happened?” Allie asked, putting her long legs up the coach and tucking themselves underneath her.

Adam nodded sadly. Ever since that incident in the library happened a few days ago, Roselyn started avoiding him. She never took even one glance at him whenever she saw him down in the parking lot or in the hallways. Not even in French class where he would always see her with that Jackson dude. He tried approaching her the day after, to apologize for  what happened, but Roselyn just ignored him and walked away, not sparing even a one look at him. She looked at him as if he doesn’t even exist.

And it hurts. So bad, he thought loudly, enough for Allie to hear and see his thoughts. He had think out aloud on what happened the past days so Allie would know. Beside him, Allie shook her head in disgust.

“Can’t say I blame you, Adam. But it’s really your fault. If you haven’t kissed her and almost made out with her in the library when you hardly even know each other, well she’s going to definitely freak out. She’s a girl.” Allie said nonchantly while listening to his thoughts.

“But I know her. I know everything about her,” he replied, a little desperate.

“But does she know you?” she asked. That made Adam shake his head.

Silence hovered around them. The only sound he could hear is the constant ticking of the grandfather clock behind where they sat. Adam stretched and rested his head against the back of the coach, staring up at the white ceiling.

It took a while before Allie spoke, her voice back again to that adorable chirp. “I know how to ease her up to you!”

“How?” Adam asked, looking at her bubbly face. She was smirking at him, an elegant eyebrow raised mockingly.

Adam felt his eyes bulge out of their sockets when he read Claire’s mind. “No way, Claire. You’re not going to do that.”

Allie continued to smirk at him. “Yes way. And you can’t stop me.”

“What are you doing here, Jackson?” Rose asked in surprise when she saw Jackson standing in front of the front door of her house, his silver Porsche purring lazily in the driveway.
