Tyler's POV

I end up getting to school 20 minutes late.
"Tyler! You are late for the second time this week! Detention tomorrow lunch, please take a seat," my teacher growls through clenched teeth.

I walk over to my desk, I usually sit alone at the back of the classroom, but today there is someone sitting in my seat.

"Hello?" I say curiously, I've never seen the boy before.

He looks up and grunts, "what do you want?"

He had curly pink hair, cute squinty eyes, pierced ears and a nose piercing. I can't help but stare at him, he was perfect.

"Uhhh... this is where I... ummm sit?" I say, unsure how to respond, I want to befriend him but it appears like it's going to be hard.

"Oh sorry... it's just... nothing, never mind. My name's Josh" he says apologetically.

"Oh hey, I'm Tyler" I say relieved whilst sitting down next to him, he just looks down at his work and carries on writing. "Cool hair by the way," I say trying to make conversation.

He looked up at me with an annoyed expression on this face,"ugh, just shut up!"

"Excuse me?" I ask confused, what's up with him? I'm trying to be polite.

"Just leave me alone! I thought you weren't like them but I guess I was wrong," he snaps then placed his head in his hands, "I thought it would be different here..."

I just sit there, unsure of what to say. What had I said? He thought I wasn't like who? He thought here was better then where and how?

I just carry on doing my work, upset that I'd hurt Josh. He just sat there staring off into space looking as if he was about to cry. We don't speak at all for the rest of the lesson, as soon as the bell rings he grabs his stuff and runs. I had a chance of having a proper friend and I blew it, why do I always have to mess everything up?

I make my way to the other side of school where I have to have history, as I walk through the door I see josh sitting at the back, I try to get his attention but suddenly some dude sticks his foot out as I enter and I fall flat on my face.

"Oww," I squeal, blood starts to drip from my nose, first it was only a bit but then it came flooding out and I get it all over my shirt.

"Mind where you're going f****t! And how'd ya like the new kid, bet he's gay just like you," he snorts.

I don't know why everyone thinks I'm gay and what's wrong with it anyways? I get up and see Josh signalling me to come to him, I go and sit next to him, unsure of what he wanted.

"Are you okay? I'm so sorry about earlier! When you said you liked my hair I thought you were being sarcastic, before you came all the bullies were laughing at me and calling me gay...I don't get what's wrong with having pink hair," he whispers apologetically whilst getting a packet of tissues out of his bag, "here," he says whilst handing me the pack.

"Thanks. But yeah, Im okay, I'm used to this. I'm not like them at all..." I say relieved that he still likes me.

My nose finally stops bleeding as the teacher walks in, she looks at me for a second with a pitiful expression on her face but does nothing.

Josh and I stay together for the rest of the school day and exchange numbers. My first real friend. Joshua William Dun.
