Shiro x reader (Keith x Pidge) - What if

Shiro sat down on his bed looking into a printed photo of him and someone else. "Maybe I should have listened to you" Shiro sighed, staring at the other person. He moved his finger and gently brushed it against the figure. It wasn't a significant other, it was his brother.

His younger brother, to be exact. The photo was taken right before Shiro took his first step into becoming a full fledged pilot, years before the Kurbuross mission. Shiro thought back to a conversation he had with his brother when he was halfway through his training.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" His brother asked, watching his brother study hard.

"Yeah, why not? You know I've dreamed of becoming a pilot, why stop now?" Shiro asked, refusing to look up to his brother.

"I don't know, I just... Don't you think you want a girl and kids in your life?" He asked, shoving his hands in his pocket.

"Beats me, all I care about right now is becoming a pilot" Shiro answered, a little late.

"But still! Later on, when you see other girls and stuff, wouldn't you want something else other than a job that you've been longing for?" He asked, shooting his hands in the air with frustration.

"Maybe, maybe not. All I know is that I want this job and I'm not going to stop working hard towards this, even for girl" Shiro said sternly.

"Suit yourself," He sighed, walking out of Shiro's dorm.

"Yeah, I should have listened to you man" Shiro said, rolling in his bed to lay sideways. "But, I was too rational and young to think like you were."

"Shiro?" Allura said, knocking on the door. "Dinner is ready, would you like to have some?"

"Sure, I'll be right out," Shiro replied. Shiro took one last look at the photo before sitting up and walking out the door.

Everyone else was at the table waiting for Shiro. "Sorry for keeping you guys waiting" Shiro apologised.

"No it's all right man" Hunk smiled.

"Yeah, even if you take an hour to get here, we're still going to wait for you" Pidge smiled.

Shiro smiled a thank you to his team and family. He took a seat down and everyone started the meal. The first thing that he noticed was that Keith and Pidge were sitting next to each other. Anyone who was anyone knew that Pidge and Keith were probably going to get together some time. Some people may have thought it to be a weird pairing, but not every couple is perfect or the one (Have hope Keith fans).

But Shiro couldn't blame Keith or Pidge. Being stuck in a castle with a male dominant group did have it's downers. Lance was already head-over-heals for Allura since the day they met the Alteans. All that was left was Hunk and Shiro, Coran said he was too old for couples and all that.

"Looks like it's just you and me Hunk" Shiro commented.

"Maybe," Hunk said, his voice muffled by the food stuffed in his mouth.

"What do you mean?" Shiro asked.

"I'm married to food" Hunk jested, sounding a little serious in the end.

Shiro let out a laugh, a genuine laugh. He loved the kid like he was his younger brother, but no one could replace his actual blood brother.

"Is something the matter Shiro?" Allura asked, observing Shiro's sudden change of emotion.

"No, I'm alright," Shiro answered, "Thank you princess."

"Hey that's my line" Lance whined.

"I'm sure it is Lance" Shiro said, resuming his paused meal.

...

That night Shiro didn't sleep as soundly as he did in past nights. He tossed and turned in his sheets wondering the 'What ifs' in life:

What if he never got captured and the Galra didn't catch him, but somebody else?

What if he actually got a girl or if the girl became a part of the team to be with him?

What if a girl that is the one comes around?

What if she gets captured then by the Galra?

What if he died in the arena like he should have?

What if... He could see his brother again?

Shiro sighed and groaned and moaned at his rattling thoughts of life. His active mind was not going to go down to the bed without a fight. Shiro tried to settle his thoughts for a good night's sleep, otherwise he would be grumpy and rational tomorrow. A sleepy pilot is a dead pilot.

That phrase was his moto during his time at the garrison and as a pilot prior to his eventual ascension to become a Paladin. 'Keith and Pidge are lucky to have each other' Shiro thought, envying their happiness together....

Little did he know, that the one girl he was looking for was getting ready to be his, thousands of miles away all the way across the galaxy.

This one-shot was more of a message to girls or guys that are reading this that desperately want a girlfriend or boyfriend. As a single person myself, I have been craving the happiness other people have when they're with another person who loves them. The love they receive from someone other than their family members is really tempting and it makes you cry sometimes.

I just want to say to you all that the right man/woman is getting ready to meet you. While you are single, I suggest that you prepare yourselves. Mature, learn, train and discipline yourselves for a life of commitment. These things may sound like a waste of time, but in the long run, they will attract good people.

Just imagine this choice: A hot guy/gal who will treat you like crap because he/she doesn't care or a man/woman who values you and who you are despite your flaws?

I hope you guys will grow internally and outwardly for the right person for you in the future. Cheerio! <3
