"what's wrong?" Cath asks, looking at me worriedly. I simply blink my eyes and continue to gape at her.
Of course I've seen her before! E! Magazine had printed her hazy picture along with Gabriel's story. And I had not given much attention to it. Who knew I'd be sitting next to the same girl and befriending her. Hell, I need some coffee.
"N-nothing. I... I'm just h-having a headache b-because of my w-wet hair." I answer, stammering like a queen. Jesus.
"Come on, get inside the house. That bitch has crossed all her limits today. Has she been bothering you that much already?" Cath says, unlocking the car and switching on the lights of the dark garage.
"Yes, she has. I couldn't care less. She needs her part of the school's attention and I won't give it to her."
"Perfect." She guides me towards an elevator and I gape at her. "It'll take us to the lobby directly." She explains and I blink my eyes.
Oh god, I'm hallucinating. I am having a too perfect dream. What the fuck? I'm day-dreaming about befriending Gabriel Stone's sister. Hell, I'm day-dreaming about entering Gabriel Stone's mansion.
"Would you mind pinching my arm?" I say it out loud.
"Not at all." She pinches and I yelp.
"Easy there." I rub the spot she pinched and frown. It's not a dream. And I need a doze of caffeine. Like, right now.
We get inside the elevator, which has a golden interior and mirrors allover the thing. Cath presses a button and the elevator jolts upwards. Within five seconds, the door opens and a huge hall covers my vision.
There are red curtains falling over the glass windows and flower vases of variable sizes.
I look around like a fool, gawking at every little embroidery and decoration, which might be a normal thing for Cath.
"Stop looking around like this, Liana. Your house is a replica of this." Cath says, smiling at me.
"No, it isn't. This is complete beauty. My house is nothing like this." I mutter, remembering my little house back home.
"Are you kidding me? Myra's got the mansion of all dreams."
Oh.
"Well, that's her house. Not mine. I don't live here. I live with my dad and sister across the ocean in a small town. I was sent here to 'patch up' with my mother who had left us approximately eight years ago without even thinking about the repercussions."
"She still is your mother. You can't just give up on –"
"No offense, but you haven't been in my shoes. It is not easy to live without your mom, watch your family crumple into pieces and then find out that the person who walked out from your life is having a great time earning money and becoming a millionaire." I blurt out and immediately regret. "I'm sorry."
"No no. Just get it out."
"Not now. I don't want my perfect family status to spoil the mood of an amazing sleepover." I smile.
"Right. Come on, I'll show you to my mom. She must be home."
Cath takes my hand and pulls me, taking me around a huge staircase and rounding under it. This mansion looks like a classic movie set!
We enter an open aisle, which leads us to the kitchen. To say that the kitchen is huge would be a fucking embarrassment. Let's not talk about it being an understatement.
"So, this is the kitchen, and my brother's favorite place on earth. That guy knows how to play with onions and utensils." She laughs.
I had been waiting for her to boast about her brother being a teenage popstar. After all, who wouldn't like the limelight that one's brother would carry.
