A blush-on here and a blush-on there. That's how they prepare you for a live and an on-screen performance. I have started hating it with passion.
I look in the mirror and try to identify the reflection of the girl who is staring at me. I fail, obviously, because this girl's face is caked with thick layers of makeup. I gag.
"Get it off." I order. "Get all this off right now."
My makeup woman gives me a pointed look.
"This goes well with your dress, miss." She insists in an annoyingly fake tone.
"I know. But, it hides my face completely. I'd rather go up there as the person I am." I smile and she obliges reluctantly. It takes her about fifteen minutes to remove that awful lot of makeup, and when she finally does, I give out a sigh of relief.
"That's better. Thank you."
I stand up and do a twirl in front of the full length mirror.
Hmm. Not that bad, right? I'm wearing a one-shoulder red dress that reaches my mid thighs and has a black belt. My hair is dropped loose over my shoulders and I've managed to erase every little piece of makeup.
The woman leaves the dressing room and gives me a moment to breathe. Honestly, she is scary as fuck. And not everyone is capable of scaring the shit out of Liana Matthias Hall. End of the discussion.
As I take a final look at myself, the door of the room springs open to reveal my handsome man.
Gabriel Stone smiles at me as he closes the door behind him. My fingers shake nervously, and I really don't understand why it still happens. It's been about two weeks since he asked me out, but he gives me the butterfly effect even today.
I put my hands on the dressing table and try to support my body. I'm already very nervous and Gabriel isn't helping me even for the slightest. Jerk of a boyfriend.
"You look beautiful." He says and stands right in front of me.
"Why, thank you. You cleaned up pretty well too."
"Thanks. I might've kissed you right now, but it'll be better if only one of us has a lipstick on." He jokes and I giggle.
"Doesn't matter. We have the whole evening to ourselves, right?"
"Definitely."
You guys might be wondering what is going on. Let me simplify. Two weeks ago, our song came out as our first duet. Within a matter of fifteen hours, it hit top ten of Billboard.
Right. Huge hit.
So today, we have our first onscreen interview and live performance for the show. It's my first public appearance as the newest budding singer and I think I might actually puke.
Gabriel keeps his hands on my shoulders and squeezes them, in a way assuring me that everything will be fine. After all, he is Cath's brother.
"You'll be amazing. I know that." He whispers and coils a loose strand of my hair behind my ear.
"What if I sing off tune? Or what if everything blacks out during the interview? What if I have the most terrible wardrobe malfunction and I end up–"
Gabriel shuts me up by pressing his lips against mine. Subtle. Very subtle.
We pull away slowly and I try not to laugh at the ridiculous appearance of his blood red lips.
Without saying anything, I give him my handkerchief.
"Thanks. But, honestly? I don't really mind wearing your lipstick." He winks.
"Uh Huh? Particularly mine?"
"Particularly yours."
"Good for you. Coz I don't like guys with lipsticks. Wrong vibes, you know?" His jaw drops and I burst out laughing.
"Give me that!" He snatches the handkerchief and starts wiping the lipstick off. I continue to laugh.
"Aww. You wanna play doll house, little buddy?" I pull his left cheek and he tries to bite my fingers off. He fails, obviously.
Before he can say anything, the bell rings, indicating that we have to report backstage in five minutes.
Alright. Panic attack on the call.
As if reading my thoughts, Gabriel wraps his fingers around my hand and slowly intertwines them with mine.
He pulls me out of the dressing room in one fluid movement and soon, we are behind the curtains and surrounded by weird looking people wearing caps attached with microphones.
I take a deep breath in and then let go slowly. The voice of the show's host is faintly audible and I can hear the roar of the audience as he introduces our song.
Gabriel nudges me with his shoulder and I look up at him. His smile calms my stupid nerves down to some extent.
"Take your flight, Liana Matthias Hall." He whispers, sending a shiver down my spine. "This is just the beginning."
No. The beginning has gone by. It does not await us. It isn't yet to come.
The curtains spread open and the spotlight is on us. The crowd howls with enthusiasm, and my face gets illuminated by the biggest smile.
The sky is the beginning of the limit. And every end has a new beginning.
But for me? The beginning was the melody of us.

Thank you so much for being a part of my little fictional family, guys! It means the world to me!
I really hope you liked the plot. I think every person has a dream he/she wants to come true. For me, it's bringing my talents up on a legitimate stage. This story was a way of providing my fictional self with that stage. I hope you guys were able to ignore the little cliches and enjoy the book as a whole.
And Pls Pls Pls give an honest feedback. Even if it is some sort of criticism.
And, of course, check out my other books if you can! They are:
The Unspoken Words
The Unspoken Love
Paper Love
When We Met
ColourlessAlso, I'll be publishing a new work. It's related to the loving-your-best-friend cliche. I've always fancied writing a story about two best friends, so this will be my first try. I hope it goes well.
*fingers crossed *
Once again, thanks for being absolutely amazing readers!
Love always,
Angela :)
