24. Cody & Tess

<Cody>

I yawn and sit on the closest bench. It's been a long day; the boys took us through San Fran today. We had no sleep last night, so it's amazing that all of us are still standing.

"Okay, it's lunch time. This is where we part ways." Ashton says, looking at his phone to see the time.

"What?" Tess asks in total confusion, the new red colouring in her hair catching my eye for the millionth time; I don't think I'll ever get used to this.

"I'm doing something with Michael and Ash's taking Cal somewhere." Luke shrugs. "You guys can either go back to the bus or come with us and be bored." I look at Tess and she shrugs to me.

"A little more exercise can't hurt." She says, then stands next to Michael. I'm about to go with her, but then I realise she'll be with Luke. No thanks. I stand next to Calum.

"I guess that's that then." Ashton says happily, heading off down the street. Luke, Michael and Tess head back the way we came, already making jokes and having fun. I sort of wish I was with them, but I'm with Calum, and that's how it's going to stay.

"Let's go then. Lead the way Ash." The raven-haired boy beside me grabs my hand and the two boys skip off childishly down the street. I smile, but realise that I don't feel as excited as I should about the fact that Calum's holding my hand for the first time.

I should've gone with Luke.

<Tess>

"So where're we going?" I ask after we've been messing around for a good ten minutes. Luke scratches the back of his neck like he did when he thought I was Cody. Michael just keeps walking, waiting for someone else -obviously Luke- to answer.

"Well, I kinda need your help." The tall blond says. I raise an eyebrow.

"I'm not gonna kiss you if that's what you want." I warn. Michael looks confused. Oops. I guess the others don't know.

"No no, of course not. Once was enough." Luke rushes. I glare at him.

"What're you trynna say here Hemmings?" I ask, pretending to be offended. He stumbles for words and I just chuckle, putting my hand on his shoulder. "I'm just messing with you."

"You guys have kissed?" Michael asks, white as a ghost. Gee, who knew something like this could be so shocking?

"Well, yeah. Accidentally. I mean, it wasn't really an accident, but--"

"What Luke is trying to say is that he thought I was Cody, and he kissed me." I cut off my rambling friend, assuring Michael that everything's okay. "That's why I dyed my hair. I thought since I don't have my bandage on and I don't swear so much anymore, it's hard to tell the difference between me and Cody."

"I said I was sorry." Luke mutters, cheeks going red. Michael let's out a snort of laughter.

"Wow. No wonder you were all flustered and upset last night. We just thought you hadn't been able to contact your mum or something, but this makes a lot more sense." He chuckles. I roll my eyes and try to keep a smile from creeping onto my face too.
