"I'd like to make a toast." My father straightened up his posture, he clears his throat as he raise up the glass of wine in the air. Sadly, they get a glass of wine while, Matthew and I get a glass of apple cider.
Everyone on the table looked at me with a proud smile on their face. Matthew takes my hand in his, rubbing his thumb against my skin.
"I just wanted to say how I'm so proud of you. I remember when you were just a little girl, but now you're a young lady almost going to college and living your future. Your mother and I are so proud of you. I know that we didn't get the letters back from the colleges but I'm still proud. To Jannalyn!" He raised the glass up higher, then everyone in the table raised their glasses up and drank.
"What colleges did you apply to?" Matthew's mother asked me after placing the glass of wine back on the table.
"I applied to UC Berkeley, UC Stanford, UC Davis, UC LA, and UC San Diego." Her eyes widened at looked at Matthew.
"Amazing! Matthew applied to UC Berkeley, UC Stanford, UC Davis, and UC San Diego as well." She smiled at him.
"Really? He didn't tell me anything about that." I raised a brow at him.
He applied to the colleges that I applied too. I'm proud of him though. Before, he told me he wasn't even thinking about going to college but now hearing him, that he applied to some colleges makes me happy.
Whether he applied or not, I would still support his decisions and be there whenever. That's what best friends do. Although, what made him apply to college?
"Yeah well I was going to tell you tonight but mom already ruined it for me." He playfully rolled his eyes. His mother playfully push him.
That dinner ended with all of us laughing, bringing back some good memories with each other, and just have a good time with each other.
"Is it alright if I take Jannalyn somewhere for a little bit? We won't stay out too long." Matthew asked my parents with a nervous look on his face and his hands stuffed in his pockets.
"Of course, just get home safe." Both of my parents kissed me on the forehead before getting in the car with Matthew's mom.
"Where are you taking me?" I asked him once they left the parking lot.
"You'll see when we get there." He put his arm around my shoulders pulling me close to him as we walk back to the car. He opens the door for me, he kisses me on the cheek before closing the door shut and running over to the other side.
"Did you like the dinner?" I asked him.
"Hell yeah. It was delicious." He buckles in his seatbelt, put the car in reverse then drove.
Silence took over us. I just watched outside the window, listening to the radio. Minutes later, he parked.
"Here we are." He unbuckled his seatbelt, I unbuckled mine and got out of the car the same time he did.
"We're at the.. park?" I looked at me confusingly.
"Yeah. I thought we could walk and talk, ya know? Just like what they do in the movies." He commented. I chuckled and reached out my hand for him to reach. He smiles and takes my hand then we begin to walk.
"I love you, you know?" He tells me.
"And I love you." I tell him.
"I mean it, I really do. I don't see why you still keep up with me. I don't deserve you but yet I can't lose you because without you, I don't know what love is. You taught me how to love and care. You changed me into a better person, babe. I'm so grateful to have you. This may be cheesy but it's how I feel." Who the hell is cutting onions this late?
"And I mean it when I say I love you too. You make me happy, you really do. You make my days 100x better. I'm grateful to have you in my life, I'm grateful to have you by my side at all times. Like think about it, you chose to be with me out of all the girls you could give your heart to." Man, this shit is getting deep.
"As cheesy as it sounds, but I'm in love with you." We stop talking and turn to each other and look at each other in the eyes.
"I'm in love with you also." I smiled. He leans down because I'm short as hell and kisses me on the lips. The way he kissed me was so gentle and passionate.
"So tell me why you didn't tell me you applied to college." I said when we started walking again.
"Well, I was going to. I was planning to tell you at this moment, while we walk around the park. But mom already ruined it." He chuckles.
"I'm so happy though. What made you apply to college? I thought you didn't want to go to college and all."
"I think college is a best way to start my future but mainly, I wanna start my future with you." He said.
"Really?" I'm surprised.
"Yeah." He nods, I didn't say anything but I just attacked him with a hug.
"Hopefully we both get accepted to the the same university." I hoped.
"Me too. Me too, shortie." He kissed my forehead. "We better get going before your parents kill me." He pulls away.
"They love you way to much to kill you." He chuckles.
We walk back to the car and drove home. Then that's how our night ended.
