Soraru scrunched up his face in confusion as he read over the directions for the billionth time. He was pretty sure he had put in everything already, but for some reason it didn't look quite right. Maybe he just didn't stir it enough? Soraru's gaze moved from the recipe on his phone to the bowl of ingredients sitting on the counter nearby. The recipe said there was supposed to be a "smooth and even batter" inside, but his looked lumpy. That definitely wasn't right. Normally, when things like this became too hard and he didn't understand how to fix it, he'd just give up. But he couldn't do that this time, because he was making something for MafuMafu.

Soraru placed his phone back in his pocket and brushed his flour-covered hands off on his pants. As he did so, his gaze landed on a single egg that was sitting on the counter somewhat behind the bowl. He stared at it for a moment, then, remembering that the recipe had called for two eggs and he had only put in one, he smiled slightly. Ah, so that was the problem. That was simple enough. He reached over and picked up the egg, careful not to hold it too tightly in fear of breaking it. He had learned today that eggs were incredibly fragile, something that only occurred to him after he hit one too hard on the bowl and it practically exploded. So, now he was being delicate. It was something he was surprisingly good at.

Just as Soraru was about to crack the egg into the bowl of batter, his phone rang in his pocket, causing him to drop it in surprise. The egg landed with a splat on the counter, making an absolute mess. Soraru scowled at it like it was somehow the egg's fault, before taking his phone out of his pocket. When he saw the caller ID, though, all his annoyed thoughts about the egg vanished. MafuMafu was calling him. Was he on his way home already? In a panic, Soraru answered the call, trying to keep from sounding worried. Luckily, that was also something he was pretty good at.

      "Hello?" Soraru greeted.

"Soraru-san! I'm on my way back from Amatsuki-kun's place right now. Is there anything you need while I'm out?" MafuMafu questioned.

Soraru looked around frantically for anything he could say. Finally, his eyes landed on the perfect thing.

"Eggs. We're out of eggs," Soraru replied, praying that this wasn't actually true. If it was, then he was screwed.

"Eggs? Okay, got it! See you in a bit!" MafuMafu chirped, before hanging up.

Soraru sighed and leaned against the counter, putting his phone back in his pocket. That was close. He had thought MafuMafu would be gone longer than that, since he usually spent quite a bit of time at Amatsuki's house. Why was today the one day MafuMafu had decided to come home early? Maybe it's because Christmas is coming up, Soraru thought to himself. MafuMafu always has liked the holidays, and whenever it's related to something romantic he gets really lovey-dovey all of a sudden. Well... more than usual, anyway. He then looked over at the bowl of batter, and a slight smile formed on his face. I guess do too, huh?

The reason why Soraru was going through all this trouble was simply because he wanted to do something nice for MafuMafu for the holidays. So, since MafuMafu liked sweets so much, Soraru was baking him Christmas cookies. He was trying to, at least. Soraru walked over to the fridge to see if there were any more eggs, since he still needed one to replace the broken one. Speaking of which, he should clean that up soon. Soraru skimmed the contents of the fridge for a few minutes, before leaning back with a sigh. And that's when he saw the empty container of eggs sitting on the stove. Soraru cursed under his breath and threw the container in the trash with maybe a little too much force. This was frustrating as all hell.

Alright, I'll just use one egg. I'm sure it won't affect the cookies that much, Soraru thought to himself as he took a deep breath. He didn't have the time to be worrying about things like this. Right now, he just needed to get these cookies in the oven before MafuMafu came home. Soraru placed globs of batter onto a tray, making sure to space them out a bit so that they wouldn't bake into one giant cookie. That would be bad... probably. Now that Soraru thought about it, MafuMafu would probably laugh and think it was funny if he saw that Soraru made a giant cookie by mistake. Something like that would definitely be hard to eat (especially all at once), but if it did happen then maybe it wouldn't be that bad. After all, the whole purpose of doing all of this was to make MafuMafu smile.
