Soraru let out a sigh as he stepped back to observe his work. The tree in front of him was fully decorated, with lights and ornaments hung up in an array of colors. It looked beautiful, but all he could do was frown at it. He wasn't sure why he still decorated his tree. After all, he didn't even like Christmas. It was a season meant for couples here in Japan, and, as a single male, that made it very lonely. And yet here he was, putting ornaments up on a tree like that would somehow make it better. He felt pathetic. Soraru shook his head to clear away his thoughts as he turned towards the box of decorations on the table. There was still one last thing to put up: the tree topper.
It wasn't a star like what people would normally expect, but rather a beautifully crafted angel. The angel had been a gift from his parents, something about wanting to bring back his "Christmas cheer", but Soraru didn't see how a stupid decoration was supposed to fix anything. All it would do was sit at the top of the tree and watch him be pitifully alone. Despite his pessimistic thoughts, Soraru reached up and set the angel gently on the top of the tree. It seemed to fit there perfectly, surrounded by thin green leaves and taking in the multicolored light shining around it. Somehow, it almost looked like it was glowing. Soraru stepped back again, observing the tree's appearance once more. It really did look beautiful.
"I wish I had someone here with me. Someone who could enjoy how pretty the tree looks too," Soraru muttered to himself.
It was a silly wish, but when it came down to it his wish really wasn't that uncommon. He wanted someone to share the world with. He wanted someone to love. Soraru sighed again and turned away from the tree, starting to walk off towards his room. There were twelve days left before Christmas, and he wanted to sleep through all of them.
Day 1
Soraru woke up the next morning feeling groggy and not quite aware of his surroundings. He had probably stayed up way too late last night playing video games, but he didn't care. He was enjoying the holidays in his own way. Soraru sleepily got out of bed and exited his room. Since it was winter, the house was cold and he wanted some hot tea to warm him up. His eyes were still bleary with sleep, which he didn't bother to wipe away, so when he tripped over something it really wasn't that surprising. It sure did wake him up, though.
Soraru winced as he sat up and turned his head to look at what he tripped over. When he did, though, his eyes widened in surprise. It was a person... maybe? He looked like a human (a rather adorable human, actually), but there were wings on his back. And what was up with the glowing golden ring above his head? As Soraru stared at him in utter confusion, the person suddenly stirred from his sleep and sat up with a yawn. His large red eyes fluttered open, taking in his surroundings. Then, he gave Soraru a small, sleepy smile.
"Ah, good morning," the strange person greeted as casually as if this happened every day.
This was enough to snap Soraru out of his stupor, and he scrambled to his feet quickly.
"Who are you?! And what are you doing in my house?!" Soraru practically yelled.
The person blinked up at him, looking completely unconcerned. "Oh, I'm MafuMafu. What's your name?"
"Soraru," Soraru answered instinctively, before he shook his head. "But that's not the point! Why are you in my house?"
"Hmm, not sure..." MafuMafu hummed while looking around again. His gaze landed on the tree, and his face lit up as bright as the lights. "Oh wow, you have such a pretty tree! I love it!"
