Scene 5 Act 1

{Kalea}

It was now Monday. I spent the rest of the weekend hanging out with Mallie, Lana, and Dan, as Lana was very curious about every single detail of my date (yes, I'm finally admitting to it being a date).

I was reading my book in science class, as I had finished my test early (thanks to Grant's help). We had about fifteen minutes until the bell was going to ring when a note appeared on my desk. I looked to my right at Grant, who was smiling at me. He looked back down at his book and I opened the note.

"You free on Wednesday night? Sorry, I couldn't wait to ask," read the note. I grabbed my pencil that was sat on my desk and wrote something back.

"I mean, I have drama club, but that ends at 4:30. I'm free after that," I wrote back. I tossed the note on his desk and he read it, smiling at me.

I had butterflies in my stomach for the rest of the period. I couldn't even focus on my book, which was a shocker for me.

Grant Gustin is going to be the death of me.

----------

"GRANT ASKED ME OUT FOR A DATE ON WEDNESDAY!!!" I shouted as I arrived to my friend's lunch table. Lana practically fell from where she was sitting.

"OH MY GOD WHAT?!" Lana and Dan exclaimed at the same time.

"MY SHIP IS SAILING!" Mallie shouted.

"How did he ask you out?" Lana asked, leaning over to get closer to me.

"He passed me a note in class. Kinda cheesy, but also super cute!" I exclaimed happily.

"That is one of the best ways to get asked out, in my opinion," Dan exclaimed, as she took a bite of pizza from the school cafeteria.

"Okay, enough about Grant and I. Are you guys excited for auditions tonight?" I asked, opening up my lunch box to start eating.

"I know I am. But I swear to God if Trinity gets on my nerves I'm going to kick her out of existence," Lana stated.

I was then reminded that Trinity is trying out for the same part that Lana is trying out for. That's going to end in an interesting way.

"I'm just excited to make your guy's costumes to be honest," Mallie mentioned, taking a pepperoni off of Dan's pizza and eating it. Dan glares at Mallie.

"But you don't know if we are going to get cast for the roles we try out for," I exclaimed, peeling a small orange that was in my lunch box.

"I'm like 90 percent sure that you guys are going to get your parts. Trust me," Mallie assured us.

"Yeah. Every time Trinity tries out for something, she either gets a small role as a background character, or she is forced to help with lighting, which she hates," Dan explained.

"Yeah. You guys will do great at auditions," Mallie exclaimed again. I smiled at her.

---------

It was time for auditions. I was a bit nervous, but Mallie's words from earlier encouraged me to try my best.

I was waiting outside a small room backstage where the auditions were being held. I sat on a wooden bench with Lana, Dan, and Mallie. Mallie and Dan were only there for moral support.

Damian walked out of the audition room with a clipboard, ready to call out the next name, which just so happened to be me. A girl with long, blonde hair slipped out of the room behind Damian.

"Kalea Jane?" Damian called out.

"Good luck!" whispered Dan, Mallie, and Lana whispered.

"Thank you!" I whispered back and followed Damian into the audition room. Daimian sat down at the plastic fold out table that was placed near the door.

"You are trying out for the part of Millie, correct?" Damian asked. I nodded.

"Okay, I will read lines to you as someone conversing with Millie. It will be what you hopefully memorized. I will begin," Damian said, clearing his throat.

"You don't have to get morbid," Damian started, playing as Madge.

"Everybody around here gets to dress up and go places except me," I complained, saying my next line.

"Alan said he'd try to find you a date for the picnic tonight," Damian offered, still acting.

"I don't want Alan asking any of these crazy boys in town to take me anywhere," I exclaimed.

"Beggars can't be choosers!" Daimian stated.

"You shut up."

I noticed that Damian skipped Flo's lines, probably so too much confusion wouldn't occur during my audition.

"If she wants a date, why doesn't she dress up and act decent?" Damian asked, completely ignoring Flo's lines.

"Cause I'm gonna dress and act the way I want to, and if you don't like it you know what you can do!" I exclaimed.

"Always complaining because she doesn't have any friends, but she smell so bad that people don't want to go near her!"

"La-de-da! Madge is the pretty one - but she's so dumb they almost had to burn the schoolhouse down to get her  out of it!"

"That's not so!"

"Oh, isn't it? You never would have graduated if it hadn't been for Jumpin' Jeeter."

Damian quickly wrote some things down on a separate sheet of paper that was on the table. "Thank you Kalea, that was great. The decided cast members will be up just outside of the theater tomorrow."

"Thank you Damian," I said, opening the door to leave the room. He followed behind me to call the next person for auditions.

I sat back down with my friends. I could tell that Dan was about to ask my how auditions went, when a familiar name was called out by Damian.

"Trinity Jones?" Damian called out to the group of us.

"That's me!" Trinity exclaimed as she stood up from where she was sat in the corner of the room. She was wearing the brightest neon pink leggings that I have ever see, with a pair of ripped up jean shorts over them. She was wearing something that looked like a bathrobe, which was a very dark green color. Her t-shirt was a mustard yellow color that had sleeves that went down way past her hands. To top it all off, she was wearing her signature Birkenstocks with knee high sports socks, which went over her leggings. She followed Damian into the audition room.

"I honestly can't believe that she thinks those outfits are fashionable," Dan exclaimed.

"Me either," I agreed.

I was taking Mallie, Dan, and Lana home today. I wanted to hang out with them, but my parents and I are going to dinner together, which we haven't done since we lived in Hawaii.

After dropping all of my friends off, I pulled my Jeep into the driveway, only to see Grant standing at my front door.

I hopped out of the car and walked over to him.

"How did you get my address?" I asked him.

"Oh! Hi Kalea. And I asked Lana. I hope you don't mind," he responded, when I noticed he was holding something in his hands.

"I just came to drop this off for you, I thought you would like them," Grant said as he handed me a red box. I opened the lid to see a variety of chocolates. How cheesy of him.

"I know it's kind of cheesy," he stated as if he was reading my mind.

"I love it. Thank you so much Grant," I thanked him and he engulfed me in a hug.

I smiled into the hug. I've never had this feeling before.
