Chapter 6

February 8th, 2014

“And…done!” my mom called after I sat in the chair for an hour and a half. She made my naturally straight hair have natural looking ringlets and pulled the top back into a clip. Then, for my makeup, she gave me winged eyeliner, smoky-eye eye shadow, and red lips. Finally, she forced me into a dress (I hate dresses, but I must admit that this one is quite cute) with black tights and off white flats. The dress had sleeves that went down to my elbows and was black and off-white lace, along with the top of the dress. The collar and skirt on the dress were both off white as well. My mom matched it with a pair of pearl earrings and a pearl bracelet.

“Alright, let’s go!” my family cheered as we exited my room. I quickly snapped a picture of Kennedy and I and uploaded it to twitter and Instagram for my followers to see how I looked dressed up.

We quickly filed into the waiting car and headed off to the venue with the other Alpine skiers. I mingled with a few athletes before being called to sit down so the information session and dinner could start.

“I would just like to inform you of the schedule for the Alpine Skiers. February 9th will be the Men’s Downhill at 11:00. February 10th will be the Women’s Super Combined at 11:00 and 3:00. February 12th will be the Women’s Downhill at 11:00. February 14th will be the Men’s Super Combined at 11:00 and 3:30. February 15th will be the Women’s Super G at 11:00, and then the 16th will be the Men’s at the same time. February 18th will be the Women’s Giant Slalom at 11:00 and 2:30, and the 19th will be the Men’s with the same times. Finally, February 21st will be the Women’s Slalom at 4:45 and 7:00, and the Men’s will be held on the 22nd at 4:45 and 8:15,” the Olympic official recited off a piece of paper before sitting down.

“Alright, so Sophia, your races are on the 12th at 11:00, the 15th at 11:00, the 18th at 2:30, and the 21st at 7:00. The Slalom will be tricky because it’s in the dark, but I’m confident that you’ll do well,” Anthony said while eating his dinner. I nodded my head and thought about these races and continued to eat my supper.

“Alright, we need more food,” my mom concluded as she stared at the empty cupboard with her hands on her hips. I nodded my head in agreement, as I bit into the last granola bar that we had.

My mom grabbed the keys to the car that was supplied to us by the Olympic officials. We hurried down and she quickly punched the name of the closest grocery store into the GPS. We took off down the road and followed the instructions, knowing that neither of us could read Russian.

We reached the store in no time and quickly rushed in, knowing that I had to be in bed early for tomorrows race. As we neared the 1st isle, a little girl came dashing up to me.

“You’re Sophia Miller!” she shouted, gaining the attention of everyone else in the store. I smiled and kneeled down to her level.

“Hi, what’s your name?” I asked in a kind voice.

“Rosalie,” she replied, not fully pronouncing the ‘s’ from her missing teeth. “You’re my favourite racer!” she continued while jumping up and down.

By now, I had a small crowed gathered around and I grabbed my spare sharpie from the inside of my coat to begin sighing autographs. Crazy, right? I quickly signed my name across anything that came my way; papers, poster, napkins, shirts, even foreheads. The length people would go, I swear to God…

Finally, the crowed died down and I was left alone to look for my mom. At the 6th isle, I ended up finding something more unexpected.

“Hey guys!” I called to Calum, Luke, and Liz who were browsing through the isle. Smiles stretched across their faces and we met each other in the middle of the isle.

“I felt like I was in a move with that walk, to be honest,” I admitted, earning a couple of chuckles from them.

“What brings you here?” Luke asked, earning a slap behind the head from Calum.

“Shopping, duh,” Calum and I said simultaneously. We gave each other high-fives and laughed.

“So I guess you're pretty famous, yeah?” Luke asked while placing and elbow on the shopping cart, appearing to look relaxed... until the cart starting rolling away and he fell on his butt. Liz went chasing after the cart while Calum and I laughed at Luke's mistake.

“I guess. I mean, I don't have a million of followers on twitter like you, but i'm verified, if that counts,” I laughed uneasily.

“Oh yeah, what's your twitter? We'll follow you," Calum smiles while pulling out his phone. I recite my username and they quickly follow me on their accounts and the band account.

"Thanks guys," I grinned while following all of them back, including Ashton, Liz, and Michael. Liz soon came back with the cart and continued shopping. I ended up walking around with them, not knowing what to do.

"Honey?" my mom called as we neared the last aisle. I spun on my heel and she looked at the four of us curiously.

"Yeah?" i replied nervously.

"Who are these people?" she asked with curiosity.

"Umm, they're umm, fans who i thought that were cool. So we've been hanging out," i covered. I really hoped she believed my lie. She nodded her head and walked over.

"Mariah Miller, Sophia's mom," she proudly stuck out her hand to Liz. Liz shook it and replied, "Liz Hemmings. Luke is my son," she indicated to the tall blonde boy who was looking around nervously, "and Calum is a family friend," she finished while shaking my moms hand. My mom looked them up and down before smiling and grasping my arm.

"Well, we have Sophia's first race tomorrow, so she has to get a good nights sleep. It was nice meting you, Liz, Luke, Calum," she said while pulling me away against my own will.

"Bye!" I called as we made our way to the check out line.

"That was strange, Sophia. Please don't do that again," my mom asks as we walk from the car to the apartment complex. I shrugged my shoulders and ignored her comment, not knowing what to say. Something bad could slip out, and i couldn't risk that happening.

"Time for bed!" Anthony calls as soon as i step into the room.

"What?" i ask while looking at the clock- 6 o'clock.

"Can't have you being tired for your first race, can we? Go and take a shower and your mom will bring in your supper. Then i want you to sleep straight away," he said sternly while ushering me off to my room. Rolling my eyes, i stepped into the hot shower and quickly and began my usual routine: shampoo, wash my body, conditioner, leave the conditioner in while shaving, wash my face, and rinse out my conditioner. I then stepped out, threw my hair into a braid after brushing it, pulled on my pyjamas, and walked into my room. Sitting on my bed was a large plate of pasta and a salad. I quickly devoured all of it and set the tray outside my door to be picked up. Then, i crawled into bed and snuggled up against the sheets.

I hope everything goes okay tomorrow.

So... I have about three weeks until exams. That means that I will have four three projects to hand in along with studying. I may have to put this on hold, due to my Writers Craft culminating :/ If I do, it would be put on hold until around the very end of January.

So sorry </3
