Chapter 15 [edited]
March 8th, 2014—Sweden
“And that is yet another blow out for Sophia Miller at World Cup in Sweden,” the announcer spoke as I clutched my knee in pain. I have no idea how I managed to do it, but some how I fucked up badly, screwed up my knee, and blew out for the second time in three days. The other time I screwed up again, but I crashed. The other, I didn't even make it in the top 10. Disgusting, I know.
A medic rushed over to me and began asking a bunch of questions. I answered them to the best of my ability and we deemed it that I can still ski on it, it will just be painful. Slowly, we made our way down the side of the course.
“What the hell was that?!” Anthony screamed as I began taking off my boots. I shrugged my shoulders. I’ve been doing a lot of that lately. I just can't find it in me to actually speak to the man that screwed up my entire life basically. Damn him for discovering me on the hill. Damn him for forcing me to leave school. Damn him for pushing me to my limits. Damn him for making me leave Ashton.
“Answer me, dammit!”
“Fuck you,” I answered simply before slipping my Uggs on leaving the room. My mom watched the whole scene lay out and gave me a sympathetic glance. Even though she didn't know the whole story, she knew enough to know that Ashton and I had a large connection. She felt bad for me; something I didn't know that she could do. I thought she could only share my father’s emotions, almost like a robot.
“Anthony, leave her alone. Sophia, let’s go back to the hotel,” she requested. I nodded my head in numbness and followed her to the awaiting car.
The ride was silent and the only stations played weird music so I settled for looking outside. Sweden was beautiful.
“KENNEDY! Can you come here, please?” my mom called from the living room. That being the first sentence I’ve heard her utter from the hill.
Kennedy soon came trotting into the room with a lolly pop hanging from her mouth. She honestly looked like a little lost puppy, and I couldn't help but smile at her innocence.
“It’s time to have a long talk.”
“What do you mean?” Kennedy and I asked her in confusion.
“I mean, I want to know what happened at Sochi.”
I swallowed nervously, “Okay.”
=+=+=+=
“So let me get this straight, you met Ashton after he crashed, you brought him back to his hotel and met his friends that you didn't know were his band mates, then Kennedy told you they were her favourite band, you spent all of your time out with them, he gave you massages, and you guys slept in the same bed together twice?” my mom asked after Kennedy filled her in on everything.
“Yup,” Kennedy and I replied in unison.
“Wow. Sophia, are you sure you’re not in love with this boy?” she questioned while taking a scoop of her yogurt.
Wow. I guess I now know where I get my bluntness from.
“No! We only met at Sochi! There is no way!” I argued as Kennedy smirked.
“I know that you do, but you just haven't admitted to it yet. Either way, you do need that boy, Sophia. And I trust you both. After meeting him in the hospital, I saw how much he cared for you. Trust me, he cares for you more than your own father. I’m fairly certain that he loves you too, but he’s too scared to admit it. You will not find another Ashton, Sophia. That is why we’re going to pull a classing romance movie; we’re going to chase after him.”
“SERIOUSLY?!” Kennedy and I screamed in unison again.
“Yeah! Now, how do you book flights? Wait, where are they again?”
=+=+=+=
“Well, this one claims that they just finished their UK tour and are now recording somewhere in London. That’s the most they’ve been able to find,” Kennedy stated while scrolling through a couple tracing/updating pages for 5SOS. I nodded my head and my mom grinned.
“Well, I guess it looks like we’re going to England. Pack your bags. Kennedy, you’re staying here to keep your dad calm. Don’t tell him anything and I will buy you anything you want,” my mom bargained.
Kennedy smiled at me, “Mom, you can’t buy Sophia’s love with Ashton. That’s all I want.”
Jesus. Has my little sister matured so quickly, or what?
“Kenny,” my mom cooed and stroked Kennedy’s brunet hair out of her face that had fallen out of her fishtail braid.
“Don’t mom. It’s okay. Go and pack. Meet me out here asap so I can tell you the plan,” she instructed. We nodded our heads and darted off to our rooms. This was really happening.
“Alright, so I found a flight that leaves around the same time as ours to England. What I’ll do is make some sort of scene and you two will run to that gait and I’ll tell dad that you went to the bathroom and will meet us on the flight. By then, you will have already left for London,” Kennedy expertly said while handing us the print out tickets. I grinned at my smart little sister.
“I love you so much Kenny,” I whispered while embracing her in a hug.
“I love you too Sophie.”

“Mom, I have to go to the bathroom,” I began the plan. My mom nodded at me and Anthony and dad gave us annoying looks.
“Go on the plane,” Anthony spat, still upset about my blow out.
Suddenly Kennedy kneeled over and clutched her stomach.
“Oh my God! It hurts!” She screamed out, effectively catching the attention of everyone in range. They faced us and looks of recognition washed over their faces.
“It’s Sophia Miller! Kennedy’s hurt!” People shouted and rushed to us. Kennedy winked while Anthony and dad were looking away and that was our cue to leave. Propping the hood on my sweater on, I grabbed my moms wrist and yanked her to the proper gate.
We were both out of breath by the time we got there.
“3 minutes until boarding closes, cutting it close ladies,” the flight attendant joked while ripping our ticket. I grinned back and walked onto the plane with confidence.
In most movies, its the guy chasing the girl. But this isn't a movie. This is real life, and I needed Ashton more than anything. And that is exactly what I’m going to get, no matter what.
