Chapter 3 [edited]

February 4th, 2014

“What made you start skiing?” Calum asked with curiosity, successfully capturing everyone’s attention in the room.

“Well, everyone in my family skis. We live next to Whistler so it was bound for it to happen. How I started racing, though, is a different story,” I explained to them

“What, then?” Michael pressed, leaning forward in his seat as if I was telling a really exciting story.

“I was six years old and I had only been skiing for four years. I ended up losing my parents on the hill and found a race course. No one was there so I decided to go down. I got through every gate and strangely got the best time of the day. The coach approached my parents and explained that I had potential and I’ve been skiing every day since,” I replied.

“Every day?” Ashton gaped. Nodding me head, I replied, “Even Christmas and my birthday,”

“Do you like skiing everyday?” he asked again.

“Sometimes, yeah. But other times I just want to be normal. I’ve never lived a normal life, unlike you guys,” I said sadly, looking down and playing with a ripped string on my sweatpants. They guys looked around with wary expressions.

“Well, it’s time to go and get supper. Want to join us, Sophia?” Liz asked with a smile. Shaking my head, I replied, “No, sorry. I had better be getting back; Coach and my parents must be wondering where I am.”

They nodded their heads in understanding and I quickly lifted Ashton’s legs and walked to the door to get re-dressed. I quickly pulled on everything while they made casual conversation behind me.

“Bye,” I called as I turned the doorknob.

“Wait!” Ashton called, limping over to me. Luckily, it wasn’t as intense as before.

“Ashton!” Liz called, “Don’t put any weight on your foot!”

I laughed as Ashton continued to disobey Luke’s mom.

“Come back, soon, yeah?” he asked, leaning against the door frame for support.

“Okay. Stick to green circles from now on, kay?” I replied. He laughed and gave me a small smile as I walked out the door.

“Bye,” he whispered.

“Bye,” I whispered back.

“Where the HELL have you been?!” Anthony yelled in my face as I returned from Ashton’s hotel. It ended up being a 25-minute ski since the hotel was located outside of Victor’s Village. By now, it was pitch-black out, which is why coach was so pissed.

“Sorry—I was skiing and lost track of time. It won’t happen again,” I lied through my teeth.

“Damn right it won’t. You’ve been here one day and you already screw up. Do you even care about your career?” he screamed at me.

“Are you kidding me? Of course I care about my career! But I never get a damn break, so when I do, I’m going to take advantage of it!” I screamed right back at him.

“Well you don’t fucking act like it! Get to bed, your mother will give you your dinner. You’re under house arrest until I say so because of this little stunt,” he seethed.

“You’re not my father! Stop acting like it!” I yelled once again, not putting up with his shit.

“But I am, and I agree with Anthony. You’re grounded, young lady,” my dad intervened while grasping my arm and dragging me off to my room. He shoved me in and slammed the door shut, leaving me to my peace.
