Chapter 7

“It’s race day! It’s race day!” Kennedy cheered as she burst into my room, uninvited. I grumble and turned over in my bed, throwing my pillow over my head, trying to block out the noise. She grabbed the pillow and began hitting me with it while screaming, “Wake up, wake up!”

“I thought teenagers were supposed to always sleep,” I sighed while grabbing the pillow out of her hands.

“I’m only 13, Sophie,” Kennedy grinned while skipping out of my room, slamming the door. 13 is considered a teenager, right?

Suddenly, my phone that was resting on my bed side table began to ring loudly. While answering it, i checked the time—8:04am.

“Hello?” i sighed into the phone while stretching on my bed.

“Sophia?” Ashton asked from the other line.

“Oh hey Ashton,” I smiled while unconsciously sitting up straighter. I ran my fingers through my curled hair due to the braid that it was in over night.

“So… how are you?” He nervously asked as I got up from my bed and walked over to my dresser.

“I’m alright, you?” I replied while grabbing my skin suit and underwear from the drawer.

“You’re not nervous at all?” he asked, ignoring my question. Placing the phone between my shoulder and ear, I walked into the bathroom with my hands full of clothing.

“Ashton, i’ve been doing this for 13 years. It’s like breathing to me,” I laughed while shutting the door to the bathroom and putting his on speaker. Now I could talk to him freely, unlike in the bedroom since it had thin walls, but the bathroom had basically sound proof walls. I don't know why.

“Oh, wow, thats good then,” Ashton chuckled from the other line.

While Ashton and I talked, I began to straighten my hair and do my morning ritual. Then, I threw my hair into a low pony tail and began to strip and change into my skin suit.

“Holy shit, this is tight,” I breathed while zipping up my skin suit.

“Thats what he said,” Ashton laughed from the other line, making me roll my eyes at his immaturity.

“You think you’re funny but you’re actually not,” I said into the phone while adjusting the suit so it was comfortable and positioned right.

“That’s not very nice,” Ashton said—I can picture him pouting right now, “But seriously, what’s tight?”

“The skin suit I just put on,” I replied while fixing my hair.

The phone went silent for a couple of seconds until I heard an audible gulp. “You mean,” Ashton’s voice cracked as he began, so he cleared it, “That you were naked while we were talking?” he asked in disbelief.

“Yeah, whats wrong with that?” I asked in curiosity. I mean, it’s not like he can see me or anything.

“Well, I mean, you’re a very beautiful girl and I’m a 19 year old guy, so that gets me a little… excited?” he answered. I let out a gasp and covered my ears, “Ew Ashton, ew no don't ew!” I cried. I heard his chuckles come through the phone and took my hands down.

“But seriously,” he began, “You’re really beautiful Sophia.”

I took a moment to look in the mirror. I guess I could be considered pretty, but not beautiful. Beautiful is a term saved for Victoria’s Secret models. Not Alpine skiers.
