Kitten- Chapter 14: Nightmare problems

I had barely gotten out of bed since Kain attacked me, my body feels drained and all of my energy is focused on my baby. The nightmares have been relentless the past two weeks since my encounter with the Demon.


Xander told me that Kain was half wolf half demon, and it had been years side anyone had even heard from him. I didn't understand why he had attacked me and every time I ask everyone tells me it doesn't matter. Well it does matter to me.


A knock on the door drew me from my thoughts "come in.." I called out weakly, the door opened ans a huge smile crossed my face.


"Daddy your back!" practically jumping on the bed , my dad let out a chuckle as he pulled up a chair beside me taking my hand.

"How is  your pup handling all of this?" my dad pushed a stray hair behind my ear as he spoke, his eyes held such concern it made my heart swell.

"My pup is doing great, shes been really active for being so small, its the nightmares that make me feel so weak, every night its something different.." a tear slid down my cheek as I spoke, my father reached up and gently wope it off with one finger.


"We have the royal trackers trying to find him, the healers seem to believe that he had taken some of your blood when he bit you, saving it to torment you." I watched my fathers eyes shift to black, his wolf was not happy about his pup being hurt in any way.


"Dad can I ask something?" I looked up at him and his eyes softened a little.

"Of course you can." He responded his eyes not back to their normal color as he looked at lovingly.

"I know im a wolf, but why can I change into a kitten too?" I shifted on the bed and folded my hands across my lap as I spoke.


"Well , your mother was a bangle tiger, I had the dominant genes being the king of wolves, but the wolfs bane put your wolf in a deep sleep, and it more than likely stopped your tiger from growing full size. Your inner beast wanted to protect you, even if she was too small to do so." My eyes grew heavy as my father pet my head lightly, I slid down in the blankets further.


"Was my mom pretty?" I yawned as I pressed my face into the pillows.

My father let out a low chuckle as he kissed my temple "The most beautiful woman I had ever seen.."

Luke and Nate sat with me in my office as we went over the map setting up more defenses around the pack house, we knew Kain was planning something but we didn't know what it was.


"You should call Alpha Tom and ask him to send a few grizzlys here, with your pup so close to birth we can never be overly cautious." Luke suggested as he circled three spots on the map.  " These are your weakest points, but you cant move any of your other enforcers, it would weaken your other defenses, with Toms bears you should be able to get these three points covered."


I nodded as I opened my laptop typing out a email to Alpha Tom asking for him to send a few. Luke gave me a funny look and I chuckled "Tom prefers email, he says phones are too small."


Nate was pacing the room hands clenched into fists at his side "how could he do this to her.." he mumbled as he rubbed the back of his neck.

"Nate she is going to be okay we can help her if we can find Kain." His suspicious behavior made me feel un easy, the way he kept getting angry when people interrupted Kittens sleep, the way he was being over protective. "Why are you acting like this?" I finally voiced the question right as the door opened showing the King.


I bowed to Kittens father and he looked over at Nate "Yes why are you acting like this?"


Nate shuffled on his feet before he looked up at me "Please don't be mad.." he almost whispered before looking up at the Alpha King.
"I love Kitten, maybe not in the way Xander does.. but shes always happy , always making everything feel better when its not... she doesn't deserve this.." Nate hung his head in shame as he looked down on the floor, he flinched when I placed my hand on his shoulder.


"Its okay, youre supposed to love your Luna.." I told him truthfully, I was surprised he said he loved Kitten, in honesty it kind of made me mad, but now I understood his anger.


"Im glad to see my daughter made it into such a loving pack, now I stopped to speak to Alpha Dean on my way here, he is going to send a couple of his trackers here, they will keep in the forest but you must make sure to feed them and give them somewhere to live until Kain is found." the Alpha King was looking at me now, i nodded my head and looked over the map of the pack house.

"we have at least seven rooms open, which will give enough for Deans trackers and the Enforcers we asked Tom for if he sends them." Looking over the map once more I nodded in confirmation of my words.


"Why did Kain attack my daughter?" I gulped at  the Alpha Kings question, I knew this was going to be asked but I was hoping not by him.

"I killed Kains mate and daughter." I answered quietly.


"Why?" The Alpha king was on the verge of attacking me, "You put my daughter in danger!" he roared as his hands slammed on my desk.


"Kain had started a war with my father when we were younger, his daughter and wife were both shifters in the battle... they came at me at once and I had to defend myself, if I knew then..." I looked down at my hands, I would never forget looking down at a woman and child with regret.


"Im sorry.." The alpha king placed his hand on my shoulder, "War is never easy." removing his hand from my shoulder he walked across the room and flopped down on the couch in my office rubbing his chin.


The room was silent after that, I continued writing up battle plans with Luke and Nate, Tom had emailed me back telling me that he was going to come with his mate and cub, his beta would watch over the pride until Kitten had given birth.

" Ten bears, eight cats and fifty wolves on the border at all times, I dont think even Kain can get through that." I told Luke and he nodded at me .

"This should be sufficent , now if you dont mind Im going to see my sister." With that Luke left the room, I looked over to the Alpha king and he shrugged his shoulders with a smile.


"He was from my first mate, before I met my true mate kittens mother, hes a good boy and loves his sister, they will always fight when they disagree, its in their blood." I watched the alpha kings eyes as he spoke of his family, his eyes and features held such love for them.


"Im sorry I brought this on your daughter.." I spoke quietly.

"Me too.." he whispered.

Late at night I paced the floor waiting for Kain to call me back, I felt angry and hurt by what he had did to my kitten but I knew he would tell me why.


The phone rang once and I picked it up quickly.

"How is my little Kitten?" Kain spoke in a sing song voice, I let out a low growl and he laughed in my ear. "Once we have the baby I will release her, only once I have the child."



"Stop the nightmares at least Kain, she cant sleep and she barely eats you will kill her pup before its born!" I growled , he let out a sigh on the other end.

"Fine , I will only give her nightmares a few times a week, is that better?" He asked with humor in his tone, I took a few deep breaths to calm my wolf.

"They've involved the other alphas now, felines and bears Alpha" Kain grunted on the other end.

"It wont be a problem will it?" he hissed deeply into the phone making my hairs stand on end .

"No Alpha no problem.." I spoke quickly, with one last grunt Kain hung up the phone.

walking up stairs I peeked in the door to Kittens room, she was on her side cuddled up against her brother, Xander was asleep on the chair beside her and the Alpha king was sitting up on the couch reading.


Slowly closing the door I headed down the stairs and outside to begin my rounds of patrol. One day  this pack will be mine, and so will Kitten.
