Chapter 9

“Do you like her?” Mary asked me as we both sat down during my basketball period. The coach wasn’t here today so we had a free period. Mary just decided to ditch her sixth period to sit with me.

We were at the football field, sitting on the bleachers. The football field is turf, there were already some guys playing. Mostly the football team practicing, then there were cheerleaders on the other side of the field, but I couldn’t see them. I don’t really like them anyways.

I placed my hands on my knees and leaned forward to place my chin on my hands.

“Well, I’ll admit that this is the first time I’m attracted to anyone… since like tenth grade” I said, carefully choosing my words.

“she told me about Saturday” she said slowly, trying to see my expression.

But my expression was simply bored, and I wasn’t going to change that.

“oh” I said quietly. Unsure of what to say.

What do you say to that, I practically had sex with your cousin, Mary, how does that make you feel.

“Well she skipped a lot, but she did tell me about what happened at the end.” She said in a soft and caring voice. Mary might be one of the most tomboyish girls I know, but I know she still has a heart.

“You have to take my feelings into consideration with this. Up until I met your sister, I thought of myself as ‘straight as a pole’, and then some girl shows up and gets me… all… nervous” I said while scrunching my face.

“I’m sure this must be pretty hard” she said while placing her hand on my shoulder. “But if you’re not ready for this, don’t lead her on. Your my best friend, and she’s my cousin so I don’t know want either of you hurt.”

I sighed. “I’m confused as hell, but I’d rather try something out, and take my time, than rush into some without a thought.” I stood up. “I know what I’m doing”

“Isabelle!” I heard someone yell.

I turned to fins Danny at the bottom of the bleachers. “Want to play football?” he asked me while tossing the ball in the air.

“Fuck yea” I yelled. “wanna play Mary?” I asked her knowing that they wouldn’t mind.

“Sure” she said while standing up.

We both raced down the bleachers and onto the field were the football tea and Danny were there waiting for us.

“well, Isabelle and Mary, you guys pick your teams” Danny said while smiling.

I smirked. “So me Vs. Mary?” I couldn’t help but chuckle. “Bring it” I said while standing next to Danny. “I’m getting Mr. Daniel over here”

“Jesse” she said while picking her guys.

And so it went. We picked every guy, my team had an extra player but she said she didn’t care because she had some of the biggest guys on the team, and honestly we looked like two ants in a group of dogs. Big dogs. We stood out, but it was fine.

“ok let’s play” I said after telling my team what to do.

“your ball?” Mary asked me.

I shook my head. “you guys can start” I said while getting in line with my team.

The game started, Mary threw the ball towards one of the fastest players. But one of my team mates tackled him to the ground. We all started laughing, not really sure why, but we did.

“come one Isabelle, stop playing like a girl” I heard Jesse say.

I turned my attention to him and scowled, walking up to him so that we were face to face. Or face to chest because of his height.
