It took me a few hours to get a grip on what I had discovered. I finally knew the truth and it made me feel better. My sister was no longer with us but knowing that she wasn't suffering after two or more years of hell, made me appreciate my own life.
Deciding to enjoy the rest of my birthday, Oscar came to see us and we spent the rest of the evening in the girl's cabin, sharing drinks, jokes and stories.
Laura and I could both see an instant change in each other. She was more relaxed and smiled more since Joel was arrested, she didn't have to worry about being hurt again.
Laura could see that I was relieved, to finally let out some emotion that had been held back for far too long. I had finally accepted the fact that Lacey was gone and carrying on with life was the best option. She wouldn't want me to wallow around feeling bad about it all. I'm going to enjoy my life as much as possible.
Knowing that her life was cut short and now Oscar's life had been put at risk, appreciating everything I had was my main aim after leaving camp. Starting with my parents.
---"I'm able to make it to the party." Oscar announced to us all. Katie's face lit up like a light bulb.
"Oh my goodness!" She began to squeal and gently pulled him closer for a hug. "You don't realise how happy that had made me!"We all instantly noticed the difference in Oscar. His skin was dull and grey and he had lost a lot of weight, he was fragile. The treatment had already had a significant effect on him and if anything, it made him look more unwell than he was before his treatment.
We had to admire his determination though, he was quite lively, despite what he was going through. He was making the most of being alive.
"You know what that means?!" Laura asked, aiming her question at the girls.
"What?" Rachel and Katie replied at the same time.
"We need to go dress shopping!" An automatic grin was now plastered onto Laura's face as she sat next to me, a can of coke in her hand. After hearing the words 'Dress' and 'Shopping' all three of them became super excited; shouting, cheering and discussing where they should go to get their dresses. I, like most other males, never understood the obsession with dress shopping and why it was always so exciting. But if it made them happy, I didn't really care.
"I've also got another announcement." Oscars comment silenced the girls excited conversation. They all turned towards him and a small smirk appeared on his face.
There was a long pause before he spoke again, and since the suspense was driving me insane, I had no idea how the girls would be feeling.
"I spoke to the hospital..." He begun.
"And..." Rachel prompted him to continue."I'm allowed to transfer all my treatment to England. It will come at a cost, but It's worth it." He spoke with a genuine smile on his face which he aimed mostly at Katie, he was really looking forward to moving over to England.
Katie's face lit up like nothing I had ever seen before. Laura had told me that was what she was worried about, going back to England without him. Her and Rachel both hugged him after squealing again. Laura was happy for him but I knew she didn't have a reason to be as excited as the other two.
She gave me a look and within a second I knew exactly what she was telling me.
Things are looking up.
