It is 11:48 in the evening, when detective Stone's phone rang, and woke him up from a good night sleep. So loud, that he fell off from the bed causing a minor bruising on his shoulder. "Shit!" He told himself, as he slowly stood up, like he has been knocked out by a boxer in the ring.
He walked towards the ringing phone, which is placed on a dark brown table, located at his personal office. "Hello!?" He asked in an angry tone, very irritated of what just happened to him.
"Detective Stone are you there?" said by the voice of an old man, talking from the phone.
Detective Stone suddenly changed his tone, to a calm and well-mannered speaking voice, as he learned that the one talking to him at the moment is the chief of police. "Ye-yes, chief, how may I help you?" he said, a little bit embarrassed of his manners
"367 crown drive street, just 3 blocks away from your house. Murder! We need you down here ASAP" The chief said in an urgent tone.
Calling Detective Stone in the middle of the night, means a very unusual or terrible crime happened. The police force won't bother to call him, if it's just an ordinary crime.
"Copy chief, I am on my way." Detective Stone said, obediently.
Detective Stone immediately changed clothes, went to his car, and drove fast to the scene of the crime, where the chief and his colleagues are anxiously waiting for him.
As he reached the area, he parked his black sedan at the back of a police car, blocking the street. "Is this necessary?" He asked himself puzzled, pertaining to the police car blocking the way, making him parked a bit further to the crime scene.
He stepped off of his car, and walked towards a huge blue house, where he saw two police men outside, busy putting yellow tapes around the area.
As he gets closer to the house, a man in a black coat and tie approached him, and then gave him a pair of green latex surgical gloves. "You will need this." The chief of police said.
Detective Stone put the gloves on "Perfect Fit" he said sarcastically, while secretly smiling. It was too tight and he can't even move his fingers properly. He went inside the house with the chief of police, wherein a bloody and gruesome scene welcomed him.
Lying cold on the floor of the living room, is a man whose age is around 40-45, bathing in his own blood, guts removed, eyes poked and wrists slit opened.
Detective Stone walked closely to the victim on the floor, and examined the wounds of the dead body thoroughly. "Very fine cuts! Looks like it came from a very sharp and thin object" he said.
He moved to the other side of the body, held the right hand of the dead man, and lifted it up. "Scalpel!" He said, while thoroughly examining the wounds, of a cold lifeless man, lying on the ground.
"What?" Detective Sarah said, standing at the main door. She's 10 minutes late again, and Detective Stone was not anymore surprised.
"You're late!" Detective Stone said.
"So what?! It's 12:00 am, and I am just in the middle of my sleep." She said.
"So am I." He replied. Detective stone put the left hand of the man down, and stood up.
"Our killer used a scalpel" He confidently concluded, as if he is 100 percent sure of his conclusion with no back up evidence.
Detective Stone's very keen eyes, and years of experience helped him to immediately conclude, that the object used by the killer, was a medical blade. Specifically, a scalpel, a surgical tool of doctors that cuts very clean and thin in the skin.
"So... Does it mean our killer is a medical practitioner?" Detective Sarah asked.
"Maybe... or maybe not..." Detective Stone answered. He walked around inside the whole living room, to further examine the area. "Anyone can buy a scalpel at a medical store, FYI" he added.
"Oh, really!? I didn't know that! Thank you for that very detailed information detective." She said sarcastically. Detective Sarah was a bit irritated by the excellent sarcasm skill of his partner Detective Stone, but what can she do, it's normal for him to be like that.
"You are very much welcome Sarah." Detective Stone replied.
"Another body here!" Policeman shouted while standing in the kitchen in front of the bathroom.
Detective Sarah and Stone immediately went into the kitchen and were shocked of what they just saw. A boy and a woman, probably the mother, dead, brutally butchered
"Oh... my... Gosh!" Sarah said, disgusted and shocked. She immediately went outside of the house to get some fresh air. Sarah is a very experienced crime detective, but when it comes to murdered kids, it's her weakness.
The woman's body was brutally butchered, the same way as the man outside, who's probably her husband, however, something is a bit different with her eyes, both eyeballs was taken out. "Who in their right freaking mind have the stomach to do this?" The Chief asked, in a very loud voice.
Detective Stone moved away from the woman's body, and walked closely to the boy that's inside the bathtub, soaked in his blood. He is strongly resisting his urge to throw up, as he is not used to see dead kids as well. Even a well experienced detective like him, will never get used to brutal murders, when it comes to children. "Damn it!" He said to himself, very angry.
The kid's neck was slit open, guts floating on the tub mixed with blood and water, fingers cut off and eyes were taken out.
This could be a hate crime, as the family was gruesomely butchered, or it could also be another serial killing. All of the evidence that was taken by the first responders was perfectly useless in the eyes of detective Stone. He knows that the one who did this was very clever, that all of the objects used in this crime were gone. Not even a bloody footprint of the killer can be found.
Detective stone stood up and walked around the house, as the police continue to take some possible but useless evidence.
They are taking DNA samples around the house; hairs in the carpet that were not cleaned since the family relocated, blood samples that came from the victims which detective Stone think is useless in finding the killer, and kitchen knives that were perfectly placed untouched inside the kitchen.
"He's a genius!" Detective Stone said to himself, angry, as he walks around the whole house finding nothing, even a finger print that will lead to the man who committed such horrible crime.
Detective Stone went back in the living room, and then suddenly, he looked up at the ceiling because he noticed some blood slowly dripping from above. "How did I miss this?" He said to himself, amazed.
He sat on a couch on the corner, which happened to be the only thing that is untouched in the living room. He closed his eyes, and think deeply, about the meaning of the words above the ceiling, written in blood. "It is time"
