Chapter Fifteen 'Monster'

Ember's POV
The light blinded me as I finally woke up. My head felt like it had been smashed through a wall and confusion hit me like a train as I tried to regain some sight.
Where was I?
'Ember you're awake!' I heard a female voice screech out as I was pulled into a familiar bear hug.
'Abby, where am I?' I asked wrapping my weak arms around her.
'You're at the hospital remember, Joker nearly killed you!' She exclaimed placing a soft kiss on my cheek.
All my memories came back at her statement, hitting me right in the heart.
The man I love nearly killed me.
Yes I shouldn't have ran away but did the punishment really have to be my death.
I wasn't dead though, he had stopped his attack.
But why?
'Yes I remember now. Frost! Where is he?' I questioned.
'Right here kid!' I heard his voice called out and pulling away from Abby I finally saw him approaching the other side of my bed.
'Frost! I...I..I! Thank you for saving my life' I smiled, squeezing his hand.
'No problem! It's the least I could do for hurting your family' he muttered giving me a weak smile.
'Hey don't. It's all in the past! I forgive you Frosty. You're my brother from another mother and I love you' I grinned tearfully.
'Stop making me soft kid! I love you too' he laughed before kissing my hand.
'So what's the damage?' I sighed gesturing to my body.
'The doctor said you have a concussion, broken nose, broken cheekbone and he's had to glue just above your eyebrow' she explained, nervously looking away from me.
'What aren't you telling me?' I frowned, curiosity setting in.
'Nothing that's it!' She shook her head with a fake smile.
'Abby you suck at lying. Just tell me!' I urged.
'Look I'll tell you soon but first let's get you out of here' she sighed squeezing my hand.
'Oh thank god! I hate hospitals. Did the doctor say I could go?'
'No but who cares! Let's get you out of this dump' Frost grinned lifting me up from the bed like a baby before placing me in a wheelchair I had no idea was there.
'Floor it Frosty!' I yelled patting on the sides.
I squealed and laughed as he suddenly took off, heading towards the open door.
'Johnny be careful with her!' I heard Abby screech from behind us.
'Leaving already' I heard a playful voice call out.
Frosty came to a stop and looking up I saw a doctor with a warm smile plastered on his face.
'We've been busted Frosty! Quick turtle mode!' I shouted dipping my head into my hospital gown.
'It's good to see you well Ember' Doc said patting my hand.
'Thanks doc! Does that mean I can go ?!' I popped my head out and gave him a cheesy smile.
'Of course!' He grinned back.
'Yayy! Giddy up Frosty!'
'Remember to be careful Ember. The first few weeks of...' he started only to be cut off.
'Yeah! Nice talking to you doc bye! Go Johnny' Abby rushed out, pushing Frost Forward.
'Sorry doc! Bye' I yelled out as we strolled away.
'Guys that was rude!' I pouted, frowning up at them.
'I'll send the guy an apology card' Abby smiled rolling her eyes.
'Frost could you hurry please. This hospital gown is giving me a bad draft in my lady garden' I grinned, shivering as we made our way through the parking lot.
'I didn't need to know that kid' he groaned.

Half an hour later I was sat, wrapped up on Abby's sofa watching Spongebob.
'What?! How in the hell did they get snow under the sea?!' I muttered in disbelief even though I'd seen this episode countless times.
'How you doing there James?' Frost smiled as he entered the room.

'Don't you think we need to go back home. Won't Mr J be angry?!' I whimpered as I felt the bruises on my neck begin to ache.

'Boss thinks you're still at the hospital. We still have some time left but we should head back soon' he explained as I nodded my head in agreement.
'She shouldn't be going back there at all!' Abby spat out, giving Frosty a worried glance.
'Seriously! What are you guys hiding from me?!' I demanded.
'You need to tell her!' Frost sighed gesturing to me.
'Tell me what?!'

Abby took in a deep breath and exhaled before walking to take a seat next to me.
'Abby?' I whispered feeling scared as she gently gripped my hand.
'Ember you're pregnant'
'What?! No I'm not' I frowned shaking my head in confusion.
'The doctor said you're 8 weeks and 4 days along' she smiled sadly.
'But...but...oh god!' I sobbed out burying my head into my hands.
I was pregnant!
I was going to be a mammy!
I was having Jokers baby!
My mind felt like it had went into overdrive as I tried to process the information.
'Ember?' Frost called out from beside me.
'What am I going to do? I can't be a mother now! My life is so unstable and no place for a sweet little baby. How can I protect this baby if I can't even protect myself' I sobbed feeling heartbroken.
'You could always get rid of it!'
Silence filled the room as I looked towards Abby in shock.
Had the words really came from her mouth.

'W..wh..what?!' I stuttered out in horror.
'Get rid of it! You said it yourself, you and that freak are too unstable to bring up a child. Do it now while it's still early' she demanded almost aggressively.
'No! I could never kill a child' I yelled ripping my hand away from hers and standing up.
'That thing growing inside you is his little spawn! It's an abomination!' She yelled standing up as well.
My body was shaking as my anger began to bubble on the surface.
'STOP CALLING MY BABY AN IT! IT'S NOT AN IT! THIS IS MY BABY!' I screamed as the tears flowed down my face.
'IT'S A MONSTER! JUST LIKE IT'S D......'
I cut her off by slamming my open palm across the side of her face making her fall to the ground.
'How could you! Never speak to me again!' I cried before running out the door.
'EMBER PLEASE!' I heard her call out but I didn't stop.
I needed to get as far away from her as possible.
