James found himself at his favorite spot on his property, the creek. The only person he'd ever shown was Cristiano, but he didn't want to think about all the memories they'd made there. Peace was the only thing he wanted in that moment and he didn't expect to find anything else.
Time seemed to slow as James rested against the bank and let his legs float along with the steady paced water. A numbing feeling filled his chest and spread to the ends of his limbs quickly. He could no longer feel his pain or anger, but instead he felt nothing. The feeling scared him sat first, but he soon came to terms with it and accepted the new numbing sensation.
Birds chirped a tune as the sun reached mid-sky and a light breeze blew along the creek, ruffling James's dark hair. The warm rays rested against his skin and helped push him over the edge of consciousness. He only woke up when he heard Cristiano's voice shouting.
"James! James where are you?" His heavy footsteps approached James as he opened his eyes to a darkening sky.
The birds' songs had long since died out and the only sound, besides Cristiano's panicky shouts, was the flowing creek.
The sandy minerals below him cushioned his back as he stared aimlessly at the stars that began to appear one at a time. James sighed and watched his breath float into oblivion above him.
"James! Why didn't you answer me damnit! I was worried sick." Cristiano dropped alongside James.
"Why are you here Cristiano? I thought I made it clear that I no longer wanted to see you." James's half-lidded, emotionless eyes latched onto Cristiano's frantic orbs.
"What? No, James. Listen, I made a mistake. Please, I want you." His hand gripped onto James's shirt and tried to pull him into his embrace.
"Get off of me Cristiano." James's voice didn't raise an octave, but instead remained monotone.
"James ple-"
"No! You don't get to do this to me! You have no right! You've done enough damage Cristiano! Leave me alone!" His hands connected with Cristiano's chest and shoved him harshly.
Cristiano didn't budge from James's weak attack, but the warm tears that fell from his lovers eyes pulled at something in his chest.
Two long arms wrapped around James as he fell apart all at once. The fight he felt inside refused to come out as he struggled to hold back the sobs that scratched deep in his throat. James fell limply in his arms as reality hit him like a ton of bricks.
"Shh..." Cristiano consoled him as he continued to cry.
"Why would you hurt me like this? I'm so in love with you Cris. I want you so badly, but I know that you're poison. I am Icarus and you're the sun; all you bring is destruction and pain. I tell myself this, yet I can't seem to stay away. You're no good for me, so why is it that all I want to do is be with you?"
"I screwed up Hammy. I really did. You're too good for me, but I'm in love with you. We were made for each other." The use of James's nickname put a small smile on his lips as his tears slowed.
"I don't know how I could trust you after what you did..." James sat up and wiped away his tears.
"I'll do whatever it takes, just please, come back to me."
"I'm probably an idiot for doing this, but... Ok."
The night sky wrapped around them like a blanket as Cristiano held James tightly and sealed his unspoken promises with a warm kiss. The urge to prove himself worthy of James was dominant inside him, and he would do everything in his power to make sure James was happy.
