Emmi's POV

Today is my amputation. Thoughts flash through my mind. What if the people in California treat me weird because of my leg. No one's going to like me. I'm scared, what if I can't walk again. I've seen how mean people are to Avia, what if that happens to me? Avia rolls up next to me, placing her hand on my shoulder, I jump at her touch.

"Emm, calm down. You'll be fine, I promise." she hugs me before rolling to her bed. We did have a match for Avia's blood in the family. Carly and Logan were both willing to give blood, Gavin too. She'll be okay. I've only ever had surgery on my port and my appendix. This is definitely scarier. A nurse comes in, tending to Avia and giving her a quick rundown on the transfusion.

I look down at my hands, wringing them together.

"Hey Emmi, you ready for surgery?" a nurse's voice drifts into my ears, and my head snaps up to look at her.

"Grace!" The older woman greets me with a hug.

"Hey girlie, I hear you're moving to California?" I nod my head looking at the ground. "Well, let's check your blood pressure. Little high, let's take some deep breaths, okay?" I nod, breathing in and out slowly. "Okay, that's better. You have nothing to be afraid of. I'm going to stay here with you until another nurse brings the anesthetic, okay?"

"Grace?" she looks at me, "I'm scared."

"Emmi, there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of." Grace hugs me. "You are going to make it through this. You are stronger than this stupid disease. I will help you win this battle, even if you're 1,000 miles away. I am gonna miss you so much, Emms." I swing my arms around her neck, hugging her tightly.

"Well, let's get you in your bed, the anesthesiologist should be here soon." as Grace finishes her sentence, a ginger haired woman enters the room.

"Emmi, I'm Eleanor, I am the anesthesiologist. Are you ready for surgery?"The lady seems nice, she has her long straight hair down.

"Can I talk to My parents?" I hold my breath.

"Of course, Emmi. I thought you had already spoken with them." I shake my head. Mom and Dad walk over to my bed. Mom hugs me tightly, kissing me on the cheek. Dad hugs me close to him.

"We love you, Emmi Loofus McGoofus."

"I love you too."I release him, "See you when I wake up!" Elanor puts a mask over my face, everything starts to get blurry, before blacking out completely.

I wake in a white room, my head is fuzzy. "Mom?" I call out.

"Hey, baby. How you feeling?" she walks over to me, rubbing my back.

"Okay, I guess." I sit up, having a bit of trouble. She helps me sit up against the pillows. "Where's Avia?" I look around the room, panic setting in when I don't see her.

"Emmi, relax. She's in a different room. They want to do some measurements for you so you can get your prosthetic ordered." I calm down. I look at my bed, seeing the raised part of the sheet where my leg is. I look to the right of it, noticing it drop down just below my knee.

"Can I see it?" I ask, my eyes flickering up to look at her, then back down at where my leg should be. "It feels like it's still there."

"That's normal baby. Are you sure you want to look? We can always wait until the nurse comes in to measure." I get the feeling she doesn't want to see it.

"Please, momma." I look at her, "I just want to see it, please?"

"Fine, don't freak out." she walks over to the side of my bed. She grabs the sheet, taking deep breathes. She pulls it away, exposing my stump. My leg is there from the knee up. I try to move my leg, the knee moves a little. It's a little painful though, so I stop.
