Lauren stepped cautiously on to the train. Ron Weasley stepped in behind her and beckoned for her to follow him.

"Come on," he said with a smile. "You can sit with me." Lauren smiled gratefully. She knew that Mrs. Weasley had asked the boys to look after her, but it wasn't necessary. The Weasley boys were like her brothers. She followed Ron and grinned to herself as she realized she would be sitting in the same compartment as Harry Potter. Harry Potter, the boy she terrorized on the Knight bus. This was going to be fun. Ron stopped at the door of a compartment and turned to her. "Just... wait here for a sec, okay?" he said. Lauren nodded.

Ron stepped into the compartment that Harry and Hermione were sitting in.

"There you are," Hermione said. "We thought you'd missed the train again this year." Ron grinned.

"No," he started. "Hey, do you guys mind if I let someone sit with us?" he asked.

"Not at all," Harry insisted. "Who is it?"

"Just a girl I know," Ron replied. And was it his imagination, or did Hermione stiffen slightly? "Her name is Lauren," he continued.

Well, don't leave her standing out in the hallway," Harry joked.

"Right," Ron nodded. he stepped out of the compartment and motioned to Lauren. As she entered, Harry's expression changed. His eyes widened and he almost jumped out of his seat.

"Y...y...you!" he stammered. She grinned smugly and sat down.

" 'Ello, Harry," she greeted him. Ron and Hermione shared a confused look as Harry opened and closed his mouth, too flustered to say anything. Lauren turned to Hermione. "I don't believe we've met before," she said, ignoring Harry's comment of "Lucky you."Lauren extended a hand towards Hermione."I'm Lauren. Lauren Black."

"I'm Hermione Granger," Hermione said, shaking her hand. Hermione frowned. "Black, as in...Sirius Black? The wanted murderer?" she asked. Faster than the blink of an eye, Hermione was shoved against the wall of the compartment with a dagger pointed at her throat. Lauren's eyes had fire in them as she spoke.

"Now there's something you need to learn about me," she said plainly, as if she wasn't holding a knife up to someone's throat. "I don't mind if people discuss my last name, but I don't like it when they get their facts wrong. Sirius Black is not a murderer and anyone who wishes to disagree, has to go through me. Have I made myself clear?" she finished. Hermione, whose eyes were the size of saucers, nodded. Immediately,  Lauren removed the knife, spun it in her hand, re-sheathed it, and sat back down. Harry and Hermione stared at her, gaping, but Ron just shrugged, looking bored. He turned to Harry and said

"She does stuff like this all the time, but don't worry. She hasn't actually killed anyone."

"Yet." Lauren added. They nodded.

After a long talk about how Harry recognized Lauren, how she knew him, and how Ron and Lauren knew each other, Harry and Hermione began to like Lauren. She was glad. It was nice to have friends. As the train stopped, Lauren burst out of the doors, the other first years right behind her. They all ran to Hagrid, their escort to the castle. They were all excited and couldn't wait to go.

Finally, it was time for the sorting. Lauren waited impatiently, watching the other kids running to their houses. Then she heard the familiar voice of Minerva McGonagall say

"Black, Lauren!" Lauren approached the hat slowly. She was nervous to see what house she would put into, especially since Remus was watching from the teacher's table. The hat was placed on her head and it began analyzing where to put her.

"Hmm," the hat muttered. "Definitely not Slytherin, Not Ravenclaw either....You would make a good Hufflepuff, but..." Then the hat shouted "GRYFFINDOR!" Lauren grinned from ear to ear as a huge cheer came from the table. The Weasleys shouted at the top of their lungs as she ran over and sat down. Lauren looked at the teacher's table and smiled even more as she saw Remus, Hagrid, and Dumbledore clapping for her. Hogwarts was even better then she thought it would be. Lauren couldn't wait to tell Sirius.
