Lauren stood among the other students and watched as Filch hung another proclamation from Umbridge. The newest one read:

All students are subject to interrogation about suspected illegal activities.

Lauren stiffened slightly. Umbridge would interrogate everyone, that she knew. But she also knew that Umbridge would do anything to get answers. Lauren could keep a secret; it was the most important thing the Order had taught her, but she wasn't sure if someone like Marian or Cho could stay quiet if they were threatened. This wasn't good.

Later...

Lauren watched as Marian stumbled out of Umbridge's office. She had just been interrogated and Lauren was next. Lauren eyed her nervously, but although Marian looked terrified, she could tell that the secret of the D.A. was still safe. Behind her, Colin squeezed Lauren's hand and she walked into Umbridge's office, closing the door behind her.

"Please sit down,"Umbridge said cheerfully. Lauren eyed her skeptically.  She knew what this woman could do; she'd seen the scar of "I must not tell lies "on Harry's hand. "Would you like some tea?" Umbridge said, like it was an order, not a question.

"No, thank you," Lauren replied. Umbridge smiled.

"Are you sure? It's wonderful." she persisted. Ah, Lauren thought. There's Veritaserum in the tea.

"I'm sure,"

"Now then, Lauren Black, is it?"

"Yes,"

"Are you aware of any illegal activities going on in Hogwarts?" Umbridge questioned. Lauren's innocent face didn't waver for a second.

"None at all."she said sweetly. She was the master of poker faces. Umbridge set her jaw.

"You are a very interesting person, Ms. Black."

"And why would that be?"

"Because no one in the Black family has a daughter named Lauren. In fact, no male members of the Black family have any children at all," Umbridge stated. "So you are not who you claim to be, and I would like to know your true identity." Lauren smiled.

"I'm afraid that I can't tell you that," she replied. Umbridge narrowed her eyes and locked the door. She smiled, her eyes gleaming ruthlessly.

"Then perhaps you need a bit of persuasion,"

Colin was at the front of the line, so he was the first to hear. Behind him stood Harry, Ron, Hermione, George, Ginny, and Fred. They all heard a moment after Colin did. The noise. The sound that ripped at all of their hearts. It was a scream. A blood-curdling scream that ran through the line of students. And it was coming from Lauren. Somehow, Harry knew why she was screaming. The cruciatus curse had been used on her.

Lauren screamed. This was the worst pain she could imagine. Her mother's death played over and over in her head and she couldn't get it to stop. She was on the floor, tears streaming down her cheeks, screams escaping from her mouth without her making a sound. She heard Umbridge quietly say,

"Tell me your secrets and I'll make it stop." Lauren yelled again. Somehow, she fought through the curse and her eyes flamed with hatred.

"NEVER!"she spat. Then the screams continued as Umbridge launched the curse at her again.

Outside the room, Colin couldn't take it any more. He sprinted towards the door to Umbridge's office and jiggled the handle.

"It's locked!"he called to the others. Hermione, Harry and the Weasleys' ran up to him.

"Stand back,"Hermione ordered. "Alohomora!"she yelled, and the door burst open. They ran into the room as Umbridge turned her wand towards them. Colin gasped and rushed over to Lauren, who was laying in a heap on the floor, tears flowing down her face. She was shaking and sobbing, curled up in a ball. Harry, Ron, and Fred stood with their wands pointed at Umbridge as Ginny and Hermione ran over to Lauren and George bolted for McGonagall. Colin pulled Lauren into a hug and she cried into his chest.

"It's okay now,"Colin whispered to her. "I've got you." Suddenly, McGonagall burst into the room. She glanced at Lauren and gasped. She turned to Harry, Fred, and Ron.

"Get her to Madam Pomfrey, now!" she demanded. The boys rushed over and helped her to stand. Lauren was escorted out of the room, Colin supporting her on one side, Harry on the other. George, Ginny, and Fred followed but Ron and Hermione lingered until McGonagall turned to them.

"Leave now." She spoke calmly. Way, way, too calmly.

2 Days Later...

Lauren took a deep breath and stood up. She had been in the hospital wing for two days and now she was leaving. Colin hadn't left her side the whole time and neither had the Weasleys' and Harry. Madam Pomfrey had attempted to remove the boys, but Lauren had begged her to let the stay. They reminded her of happiness, and she needed to stay close to happiness in order to recover. Now, she took Colin's hand and they walked into the Great Hall. All eyes went to Lauren and she could see the members of the D.A. quietly nodding at her. McGonagall looked both worried and relieved to see her and Lauren couldn't help but notice with satisfaction that Umbridge's face looked slightly purple today. Purple like a bruise. Lauren sat down next to Harry, who passed her a treacle tart.

"I told Sirius." He admitted. Lauren's eyes widened.

"And Umbridge is still alive? That's pretty impressive,"Lauren replied. Across from her, the Weasley boys sighed with relief.

"It's good to have you back,"George insisted. Lauren smiled.

"What did Sirius say?" she asked.

"I don't know,"Harry replied. "I never got a response." Lauren went pale. But little did any of them know, that at that very moment, Umbridge's office had been broken into. A mysterious person had snuck in and destroyed everything inside and left a surprise. Umbridge would only realize this when she went into her office and found a bunch of decomposing cat corpses hanging from nooses tied to the ceiling. The mysterious person was never caught.
