Resumption
(noun)

the act of beginning something again after a pause or interruption.

It had been a week since the Hogwarts Feast happened and it had also been a week since the last time Lily and Scorpius have spoken to each other. Not unless you count the awkward 'excuse me's and 'sorry's every time they bump into each other along the corridors. Lily wasn't sure what to feel about Scorpius, partly because she didn't know him that well and partly because she wasn't sure if he even felt anything special towards her! It was probably just Alice's foolish assumptions.

Lily was sitting on a couch at the Gryffindor common room with her cousins and friends. The fireplace was lit up which made the room warm and cosy. The room was still crowded with students that were climbing up to their dormitories for they had just finished supper.

Hugo was sitting beside Lily, a roll of parchment and a quill on his hand.

"Hey, Lils? Are you finished with the potions essay?" He asked, a frown on his face.

"Hugo, that essay was given five days ago and you haven't even started yet?" Lily chuckled before handing him her essay.

"I didn't think it was this hard!" Hugo answered defensively before taking her parchment.

Lily rolled her eyes at Hugo as he started copying bits of what Lily wrote on her essay.

Fred came down from his dormitory along with Louis Weasley, Reece Longbottom, and Albus.

"Have you guys seen James?" Fred asked, an annoyed tone in his voice.

"We're supposed to play exploding snap tonight!" Louis raised a box of the exploding snap with a mischievous smile on his face.

James, Fred, and Louis were in seventh year already, and so were their other girl cousins; Rose, Lucy, and Dominique Weasley. They were, in fact, a very big family.

"He's right there, with Cass Clearwater." Alice glanced at the far end of the room where James and Cass were spotted holding hands and having what seemed like a deep conversation.

"Careful not to snog his nostrils!" Fred shouted at Cass, jokingly.

"Sod off, mate!" James scowled at Fred with a cheeky grin on his face. Cass giggled and started kissing James.

"Ewww! Get a room for fuck's sake!" Louis threw a pillow at James, thankfully missing his face by an inch.

"I think this room's too crowded. Shall we continue upstairs?" James suggested to Cass before giving his cousins a look.

"No, no. Boys cannot enter the girl's dormitory. You know that." Rose shook her head, her arms crossed.

"Party pooper." James teased Rose and Rose stuck her tongue out at him like a little kid.

"James, stay here. We're going to play exploding snap tonight, remember? Cass could join us, anyway." Albus spoke up.

When almost all the students were upstairs inside their dorms, Lily's family and friends decided to play exploding snap-- a card game that explodes, gobstones-- a game involving stones played something like marbles, in which the stones spit disgusting liquid at the opposing player when they lose a point, and a lot more wizarding games at the Gryffindor common room. The night was filled with jokes, pranks, and laughter that echoed in the entire room until midnight. It was their cue to go to bed when the Fat Lady whined about 'smelly loud children who stayed way passed their bed times'.

The next day, Lily had finished her morning and afternoon subjects. She had a free period to herself because she took two Astronomy subjects instead of one Divination. Though she admired Professor Trelawney's skill of seeing the future, she wasn't quite fond of the subject itself.

Lily walked towards a tree she always liked near the black lake. It was almost sunset and not much students were outside because most of the people still had classes. The only sounds she could hear were the wind touching the trees and the birds that were flying through the lake. She usually stayed under that tree when she wanted to be alone and needed some time for herself. To her, it was the perfect place to think and it also had a nice view. She took out her sketchpad and started drawing the rock in front of her that was covered with moss.

"Mind if I sit with you?"

Lily was shocked when she heard a deep voice talk behind her, thus ruining her nice artwork. It was now smudged with a long line of green coloured pencil. She quickly looked up to see Scorpius Malfoy leaning on the tree, clearly bemused of Lily's reaction to his presence.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."

"Er- what? Oh! Er-- right. I was just-"

"You were drawing, I know. I think it's really nice, that rock." A crooked smile appeared on his lips.

Lily looked at her sketch of the rock, seeing the large green line that ruined her drawing. "Oh, shit!"

She tried to erase the line, but it just didn't look as nice as it was before.

"Let me help." Scorpius slowly sat down beside Lily, taking her sketchpad and coloured pencils from her. He made the green line look like the stem of a beautiful flower and added more colour to the sketch. It now looked like it wasn't ruined at all and it even looked better with the things added by Scorpius. Lily silently watched him, clearly impressed.

"I didn't know you could draw. I think it's lovely." Lily's voice was soft and silent like a feather. She moved closer to him so she could watch closely to what he was drawing.

"No one does." Scorpius stated before finishing off his drawing. He handed it to Lily with a smile. Their eyes met and for the first time, Lily saw his face closely. She noticed that his eyes were perfectly congruent to his nose. His hair so blonde and purposely messy. and his jawline and cheekbones were visible as ever. He even had a little cleft chin.

"What are you doing here?" Scorpius asked when Lily didn't say anything for almost a minute. She snapped out of wonderland and went back to reality. She realized that he wasn't supposed to be out there either.

"What are -you- doing here?" Lily asked back.

"I asked first."

Lily sighed before explaining.
"I didn't take divinations this year and took two astronomy classes instead."
She looked at Scorpius, her brow arched.
"Now, you answer my question."

"Professor Flitwick is sick so he couldn't attend classes today."

"But why are you here outside?"

"That's my spot you're sitting on, Miss Potter. I should be asking that question."

"I've been in this spot since my first year here at Hogwarts and I've never seen you anywhere near this tree." Lily crossed her arms, assuming that she won the conversation.

"That's because we have different time-tables, of course you won't see me here." Scorpius smirked and sat straight. He tilted his head before adding, "But we could always share this tree, if you want."

"No, we will not. Like you said, we have different timetables, so we won't see each other anyway." Lily gathered her things and stood up.

"Where are you going?" Scorpius asked, standing up with her.

"It's getting dark and it's nearly supper. Don't you want to eat?" Lily started walking back inside the castle, and took a quick glance at him.

"Are you asking me on a date?" Scorpius caught up so he could walk beside her.

Lily wasn't sure if she heard right.

"Am I asking you on a wha-- wait! No, I am NOT!" Lily scoffed and faced Scorpius with a shocked expression.

"Sure, Lily. See you later, after supper, then!" Scorpius shouted as he walked hurriedly into the castle.

The smile on his face as wide as the crescent moon up in the sky that night.

"But... I didn't ask him on a date." Lily huffily muttered to herself as she watched Scorpius walk inside the castle, a defeated look on her face.
