I was awoken the next morning by a loud excited squeal, coming from downstairs.
I sighed, rolling over to check the time. 7:30 am. Really?
Climbing out of bed, I walked over to Elena's moses basket, pushing my hair behind my ears. I smiled down at my daughter, her eyes open and scanning my room rapidly, taking in the new surroundings.
"Morning, baby." I whispered, scooping her up and heading towards my door, still smiling at the tiny bundle in my arms.
Once I'd reached the top of the stairs, I could hear the three voices drifting up the stairs. Sitting down on the top step, listening to the soft voices as the spoke.
"Where's my son?" I heard Michael ask, his tone full of joy.
"He's still asleep." Carrie said, I could hear the smile in her voice as it went silent for a few moments.
"What about Alma?" Andrew mumbled, I pictured his black hair falling over his sea-foam eyes as he spoke, and my fingers itched to go and push it away.
"She's still asleep too." She laughed, coming to the bottom of the stairs, swinging around the pole that ended the banister and climbing up the stairs.
"Hey." I whispered, smiling at my sister.
"Hey! Thought you were asleep?" She raised a questioning eyebrow.
"I was, then you squealed." I muttered, narrowing my eyes at her playfully.
"Oh, okay." She looked back down the stairs. "Andrew's asking about you."
"I know, I heard." I whispered, standing up from my position on the stairs, handing Elena over to Carrie.
"You gonna go see him?" She glanced up from her sleeping nieces face, a small smile playing on her lips.
"I don't know." I folded my arms across my chest, smiling at my sister and daughter.
"He really missed you when you were in 'rehab'" she muttered, glaring at me.
"Are you ever gonna get over that?" I whisper-shouted, placing my hands on my hips.
"Nope." She popped the 'p', a smug smile on her face.
"Fine, I'll go talk to him." I huffed, starting down the stairs.
Reaching the bottom of the stairs, I smiled warmly at my best friend, and my brother-in-law. Andrew's face lit up when he locked eyes with me, a goofy grin spreading across his lips.
"Alma." He breathed, taking a few steps towards me.
"Hey." I whispered back, giggling loudly as he wrapped his arms around my waist, picking me up off the last step and spinning me around. I wrapped my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist, smiling when he nuzzled his face into my neck. I did the same, leaning my head in the crook of his neck, inhaling his familiar scent, mint and cologne.
Carrie came down the stairs then, Elena still cradled in her arms.
"I'm sure we only had the one baby, and it was a boy." Michael stated, wrapping an arm around Carrie's shoulders.
"Erm, this is my niece, Elena," she glanced at me, still in Andrew's arms. "She's Alma's daughter."
Shock etched onto both the men's faces, their eyes widening and mouths hanging open in shock.
"Surprise?" I muttered, lifting my palms up to the sky, shrugging my shoulders.
"What the hell Alma?" Andrew demanded, setting me back on my feet, placing his hands on my shoulders and shaking me a few times.
"Okay! Calm down," I muttered, taking his hands off of my shoulders, letting them swing back to his sides. "Yes, she's my daughter, but you might want to take a closer look Andy."
He stepped closer to Carrie, looking down at Elena, shock covering his feautures once more as he saw what I saw.
"She's your daughter too Andy." I whispered, placing my hand on his shoulder.
"Really?" He asked, looking back at me.
"Yes." I whispered, plastering a fake smile on my face.
God, I hope I was right.
