"Alma! There's a letter for you!"
I blinked a few tears, breathing deeply.
The letter, the results, would be the beginning, or the end.
I took another deep breath, moving towards the door. "Coming!" I shouted back.
Walking down the stairs, I plastered a smile on my face as Carrie handed me the thick white envelope.
"Thanks." I breathed, quickly heading back up the stairs as Michael appeared from the living room.
Re-entering my room, I placed the envelope on my bed, checking on my daughter before I even thought about looking at it.
"Today is the day." I whispered, reaching for my phone.
Pressing down the number 5, I placed the phone to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Sammy, they're here." I whispered, eyeing the white envelope on my bed.
"Have you looked at them yet?" She replied, worry etched in her tone.
"No, I can't do it alone Sammy." My voice cracked, the tears in my eyes nearly tumbling over.
"I'm on my way." She answered quickly, hanging up.
I sighed, running a hand through my hair.
Clicking on messages, I sent Andrew a quick text.
'They're here, A x'
About a minute later, I got a reply.
'I'll be there in 10 x'
Tossing my phone on the bed, I picked Elena up, deciding to feed her before Sammy and Andy got here.
Just as I reached the bottom of the stairs, Carrie and Michael appeared from the kitchen, James in Michael's arms.
"We're off out for a bit, you gonna be okay alone?" Carrie asked, grabbing her coat.
"I'll be fine, have fun." I replied, avoiding eye contact with Michael.
"See you later then, Alma." She grinned, kissing my cheek, and Elena's forehead.
"See you." I whispered as they left.
Sighing, I headed towards the kitchen. I made Elena's bottle and managed to feed, burp and change her before there was a knock on the door. Looking out the window, I saw Sammy's silver car on the drive.
"Come in, its open!" I shouted.
"Hey chica!" Came the reply a few seconds later.
"Living room." I said, placing Elena play mat on the floor.
"Hey," Sammy sighed, kneeling down beside me. "How you feeling?"
"Honestly, I don't know how I'm feeling."
Instead of answering, she wrapped her arms around my shoulders, hugging me from the side.
A few minutes later, another knock sounded on the door. I didn't even need to shout for them to come in before the door opened and Andrew appeared.
"Hey." He breathed, leaning against the door frame.
"Hey," I smiled weakly. "The envelope is upstairs, I can't bring myself to open it."
