I hadn't realized I had fallen asleep until I heard my doorbell ring. I sleepily rubbed my eyes and looked on top of my TV at the clock. It read 11:56 p.m.
Who comes to people's houses at midnight?
I put on my slippers and the doorbell rang again. "I'm coming, I'm coming!"
I looked in the peephole in the door and saw it was Sean. Ugh.
I opened the door. "Hey Sean." I yawned and said, "What are you doing here this late?"
"I just wanted to see if you were OK. You kinda hung up on me earlier and I called several times after that but you didn't answer." He said, with a hint of anger and concern in his voice.
I opened my eyes a bit wider, trying to wake up. I was so exhausted. "Yeah, about that. I'm sorry, I was just really tired. And I had a phone call from my dad so I had to hang up on you." I hated lieing to him, but I just couldn't work up the nerve to tell him the truth.
"Oh." He peeked around me into my condo. "Anyone else here?"
"What? No. Why would there be?" Did he really think I was cheating on him?
He nodded. "Just asking."
I opened up the door wider. "Come in."
He came in slowly, cautiously looking around. I rolled my eyes behind his back.
"Were you asleep before I came?"
"Yeah. I must have passed out. I was watching Titanic, then next thing I know I'm drooling on the couch." I said, laughing a little to lighten the mood.
He ignored my attempt at easing the tension. "I see."
I plopped down on the couch and crossed my legs, like I did in Kindergarten. "So, how was work?"
He sat down across from me. "Fine as usual. How about you?"
"It was alright. I'm finally getting somewhere with my film. I'm working on getting the actors and actresses now."
"Are you hiring Bridget?" He asked nonchalantly. Things were about to get ugly..
"I...don't know. Why?"
"I don't think you should." He said, leaning back.
I chuckled awkwardly. "I think that's my choice to make, Sean."
"I don't get a say in this? I mean, you know, I am your boyfriend. And seeing how Bridget and Carson have a-"
"First of all Sean, this is my film. Not yours. Not ours. Mine. Secondly, whatever Bridget and Carson are doing are what Bridget and Carson are doing. I have nothing to do with them. I will hire who I want, when I want, and how I want." I said sternly. I was so sick of his attitude lately.
"So the fact that I don't like you being near Bridget or Carson means nothing to you? Is that what you're telling me Alea?"
"You can interpret it any way you'd like, Sean."
He was silent. I saw his jaw clenching and his nostrils started to flare.
"Sean, I'm really not trying to be mean. But I promise you, nothing is going on between me and Carson. I haven't seen him since the encounter at the restaurant." More lies.
I could tell my words weren't convincing him. I got up and went and sat in his lap. I looked in his eyes. "The only person that I truly care about is you and only you. Believe me, please?" I kissed him lightly.
