After hearing Carson's frightening phone call, I practically broke the buttons on the phone trying to reach Sean.

Finally, he picked up.

"Hey, babe. How'd you get-"

"Sean, there's no time for that. Bridget had a heart attack!" I nearly screamed into the phone.

"Woah, what do you mean? How do you-"

"Carson called me.. left a message." I tried to catch my breath. "We need to get there now. Come to my condo and get me. I'm walking out now!" I slammed down the phone and ran out of the door and down the steps.

I probably checked my phone 50 times before he arrived. He unlocked the door and I hopped in.

I looked back at the kids who looked extremely confused. "Where are we going?" Ryan asked.

Sean and I exchanged glances. I nodded my head at him to drive.

"Sweetheart, something happened at the hospital. We're just going to go make sure your mommy's OK."

"What happened to mom?" Ryan asked.

I stole a glance at Sean. "We don't know yet."

"What time did he call?" Sean said in a hushed tone. He glanced at the clock.

"I don't know. He left a message on the machine. As soon as I heard it, I called you."

"Alea, this could get really bad."

I nodded in agreement and grabbed his hand. "I know."

"Dr. Rogers, please report to room 203. Dr. Rogers, please report to room 203." The lady bellowed over the intercom.

When we arrived at the hospital, they told us Bridget was still being worked on in the ER. Every couple of minutes, Ryan or Chris would ask what was wrong. Neither Sean nor I ever had any answers.

About an hour later, a doctor came out and walked towards us. Sean and I quickly got up and approached him. The kids looked on in concern.

"Are you two friends of Bridget's?"

"Yes." I nodded, trying to fight back the tears I didn't know I had. Sean held my hand.

"She's stable..but, we don't know how long that's going to last. Her body didn't recover well from the cardiac arrest."

I sniffed and leaned on Sean's shoulder.

"There was and still is so many drugs and other unknown chemicals in her body...it's just a slim chance she's going to..pull through.. I'm sorry."

Sean let out a deep sigh. "How long do you think she has left?"

"We aren't sure..But we do suggest that she is around family during such a critical moment."

"Oh, God, Sean. What about her kids?"

"Social services will handle her kids..if anything were to happen."

My mind wandered to the social worker I'd met the day before.

A few seconds later, Carson rushed through the door.

Anger arose in me. "Where have you been?" I said sternly as he came towards us.

"I had to take a breather." He looked at me, then Sean.
