“We need a new car,” I grumbled.

“Okay,” Alex sighed from the back she was sleeping and sounded as if she would say yes to anything I asked.

“Hey will you let me dress you up in a dolly dress with a red bow tomorrow?” I asked.

“Yeah yeah, sure,” Alex yawned. I giggled and turned off the road to what looked like a small town. But it had what looked like a wall  made out of trash and debris outside of it. I pulled up to what looked like the entrance. As soon as we did a person stepped out with a bat in his hands. He was a muscular man who was African American. He looked like someone that can break me in half. “Hi,” I said shy. He smiled and said,

“Anyone with you?

“Yeah my friend her brother and niece.”

“Anyone infected?”

“Not even close,” I said he smiled and banged on the barn door that was wedged in between the trash walls. The door slowly began to open and he said,

“Welcome to Tullamore safe town,” I smiled and pulled inside. I was instantly reminded of the world that I lived in. It looked normal, cars on the streets, people on the sidewalks, homes with lights on, and dads grilling. I pulled into a Walmart parking lot and turned my head back to Alex and shook her shoulder. She got up slowly and rubbed her eyes then looked out the window.

“Was it a dream?” She asked. More to herself than to me or Kyler.

“I wish,” I said sadly.

“So where are we?”

“Some safe town.”

“No, they are never reliable,”

“There's a wall around it,”

“Not enough.”

“Agreed, we need food and a faster easier car,”

“One day,” Alex said opening her door to step out.

“Kyler, lets go,” I said to the boy in the back with a drooling Arianna in his arms. He nodded and said,

“Time for a change.”

Harry

“Welcome to Tullamore safe town,” The muscular man at the front said.

“What’s a safe town?” Zayn asked.

“Its similar to a safe house, but we expanded and now we are a safe town,” The  African American man at the gate explained. Thomas, which we learned was the name of the blonds dad pulled inside. The three girls names were Becky, Liberty, and Gloria. Becky was the blonde one, Liberty had the unnaturally red hair that smell too much like products, Gloria was the brunette who smelled like she took baths in perfume. Gloria and Becky hung on Liams every word and almost hung on him. Liberty on the other had seemed more forced to flirt but even so she clinged onto Niall. Harry had made it very clear from the beginning that he was not to be touched, and he used Alex’s hate lines as often as he could. As we rolled around the town it seemed like a normal town before this hell. Harry leaned over and whispered in my ear, “They wouldn’t be here, and I am starting to think that Alex may be right with the safe houses they are just not safe.”

I nodded, “We can’t stay here.”

“Oh. My. God!” Becky shouted making me jump. “Dad! there was a victoria's secret back there we need bras!” Thomas pulled over and the three girls jumped out.

“Want to come?” Gloria asked Liam.

“We will model for you,” Becky said twirling her blond hair.

“I think I will pass,” Liam said uncomfortably. Liberty closed the car door and flipped her hair joining the other two. Thomas sighed.

“Honestly its like a fucking unicorn made of beauty products, shit those three barbies out!” I said putting my head in my hands. Zayn laughed and Thomas turned to face us.

“You get that line from a woman?” my head shot up and I looked at Thomas in shock. Thomas laughed and said, “I thought so.”

“How did you know?” I asked.

“I remember the girl that I loved… She was beautiful. Long brown curly hair and blue eyes. Beautiful blue eyes that made my heart melt every time I looked into them.”

“You sound like you were in love,” Zayn said stating the obvious.

“She sounds a lot like the girl I love,” I said smiling. Thomas nodded and continued.

“She was a beautiful thin woman who originally came from Russia. She came to Ireland because her parents had arranged a marriage for her, to an american. The wedding was to be here, in Ireland. But you see she had and attitude, and anger management problems, so great that she could probably melt steel just by looking at it. When she arrived to Ireland she was not a happy girl. Her father was rich and had her watched everyday to make sure she didn't run away. The house that they stayed at happened to be next to mine. The window in my room faced hers. One night I looked out the window to find her opening it. And then she did the unexpected. She kicked the screen out and climbed out and stood on the ledge. I thought she was committing suicide so I quickly opened my window and called out to her. She was stunning even in tears. I ended up kicking out my own screen and talked her back into her house. Ever since everyday at 10 she would be at her window and she would talk to me. I began to love her and she loved me, until he arrived. His name was Harold. He was a sickening man who was a scientist. He looked more interested in dissecting her than marrying her.”

“Gross,” Niall said with the rest of us nodding in agreement. Thomas chuckled,

“She of course was married to him the next day against her will. On the last night, she never came to the window. I saw her as she came to her room in her wedding gown looking miserable, used. She walked to the window and instead of opening it she pulled the curtain closed. A tear sliding down her cheek and her new husband walking into the room behind her. I have never been so heart broken in my life. I loved her, and 6 years later she returned to my old house. My parents called me over. I was overjoyed when I heard the news, I stopped at a local store to get her flowers. But when I arrived at the house my mother was in tears. The love of my life lying on the couch, cold and lifeless…” The car was quiet.

“I don't understand,” I said. “Then who was… I mean your daughter…”

“I married later in my life and had my daughter with her,” Thomas said looking out the window. The three girls were heading back to the car and before they reached the door Louis asked,

“What was her name?”

“Vera,” Thomas smiled.

“Veaa?” Becky asked rudely. The girls behind her laughed and filed into the car. Thomas’s smile vanished and he started the car.

“Let’s go to Walmart,” Liam suggested.

“Yeah, I’m hungry,” I agreed. Thomas made no reply or move to change course.

“Um hello!? Were hungry! Lets go!” Gloria snapped. Thomas sighed and turned into another street and then into a parking lot, passing by cars in search of a space but there was one in particular that caught my attention. A brown van…
