“Hey.” Alex didn't even reply, she turned her head to me and coughed. “Um… I know everyones in a frenzy to cheer you up,” I started, “And I know you don’t want to talk to anyone right now, but can you take a walk with me? I wont do anything, I promise, I just think you might need some fresh air… Not that its fresh anymore, but… I just… Um.” Alex stood from her seat and followed me out, wrapping the blanket around her as we stepped outside into the early winter air. we walked in silence for a few minutes beginning to make laps around the bus. Eventually Alex tired and sat on a curb. I sat next to her and stared at the cloudy sky. “It’s okay to be sad,” I said suddenly. Alex’s head snapped towards mine in shock. “Lison Alex, by experiencing both victory and defeat, running away and shedding tears, a man will become a man. It’s okay to cry, but you have to move on!” I said copping the words my grandfather once told me.
“I’m not a man,” Alex said quietly. I smiled knowing that it was the first time she talked in days. My eyes ventured to her neck, that now held three gold chains.
“Can I see your necklaces?” I asked. Reluctantly Alex took them off and handed them to me.
“Just be careful with them,” Alex said quickly.
“Don’t worry, I will,” I said as I braided the necklaces together.
“Hey, what are you-”
“Just trust me, okay?” I asked interrupting her. She gave me an uncertain nod and I continued to braid the necklaces. “A lot of people that you love are represented all over your body. One necklace is for you, one was your older brothers, and one was Kylers. The one on your wrist is for Arianna. It’s time that, us as your friends, were represented too.” I said as I pulled out the charm I took from Walmart and slipped it onto the braided chains making it one necklace. The charm had a gold outline, and a clear part that served as a magnifying glass to what was inside the charm. The definition of fearless. Alex turned her back to me and moved her hair aside so that I could put the necklace around her neck. It shined around her neck. “There, now all of us are represented,” I said with a smile. Alex gave me a tearful smile and stood. Making a beeline around abandoned cars to the bus. She walked up the steps with a sertain power that I missed.
“So, I have been out for about a week and all the progress you guys made was a mile?” She asked with a smirk and a hand on her hip.
“Well, I didn’t want to move because I was afraid you would…. ALEX IS BACK!!!” Lily screamed practically flying into Alex with tears streaming down her face. But before Lily could free Alex from her grasp, everyone else joined in for a giant group hug. I leaned against one of the seats and smiled, glad to have Alex back.

“Sir,” I said nervously as Dr. Armstrong angrily drummed his fingers on the table.
“She took longer than I expected her to,” He said.
“Sir, with all due respect, but any normal person would have died if they were given that high of a dosage. I think the it is remarkable that she is even alive,” I said.
“That’s not what I’m talking about,” Armstrong said coldly. “Of course she survived. She was born to survive that dosage. What I’m talking about is the death of Kyler. It was probably a mistake to leave her with more than one loved one.”
“I don’t follow.”
“Don’t flatter yourself. I didn’t expect you to. But because you have served me for so long I guess I can tell you. You see, Alexandra is the perfect weapon. But perfection comes at a price. Her creator, me, must have some way to control her. The obvious is to use a person that she loves.” I nodded, not sure of what to make of what he just told me. “So, now that she’s back on her feet, lets throw in a little welcome back present. Release project number 30.”
“Sir,” I nodded and turned to the computer. I released the thing into the world and felt a painful jab on my side. I turned my head to see none other than Dr. Armstrong with the syringe stuck in my side. My vision went blurry and the next thing I knew, I was on the floor.
“Twenty minutes. That’s how long you have left to live,” Dr. Armstrong’s voice said from above me. I listened as his footsteps left the room and the door slammed shut behind him, leaving me alone.
