Hala, Olivia, Acerola, and Kahili. The four members of Alola's very own elite four. Each specializing in a certain type, packing immense strength and passion for battling.
And I had just beaten all four of them.
I strode up the tall staircase, my knees weak and shaking. Nothing stood in the way of me becoming champion. I had come a long way from the helpless young girl with her frail Rowlet back in Hau'oli city who had to rely on a complete stranger to save her. I had no more obstacles in my way-- I was now the strongest trainer in all of Alola.
Or... so I thought.
Just as I ascended up the staircase, I was greeted by nine other than professor Kukui. My face grew pale as the man let out a hearty laugh and crossed his arms in front of his bare chest. "Glad you could make it, cousin! You need to get through me before you become the champion of Alola!"
"Professor?!" I exclaimed in shock, similar to the way I greeted him back in the Royal dome. The professor chuckled, obviously aware of the reference.
"No, the masked royal!" He laughed boisterously. "Now, make sure you're ready for our battle!"
I nodded solemnly as I quickly doused all of my Pokémon with potions and ethers so that they were in their best conditions. Once we were ready to go, I stepped in front of the professor in preparation for battle. I felt determination fill my veins as I let Lycanroc out for battle.
Next thing I knew, I was putting my Pokémon in a rectangular machine, which recorded their data while simultaneously healing them. The professor stood behind me, a wide smile on his cheerful face.
"Congratulations! You're Alola's first ever champion!"
In a mere moment, I was back in Iki town, surrounded by all of my friends. Upbeat music and the lingering scent of food was reminiscent in the background, along with many familiar faces.
"Wow, congratulations (y/n)!" Hau yelled as he jumped up and down in excitement.
"Amazing work!" Lillie nodded in agreement. "We are all so proud of you!"
After receiving congratulations from everyone else in the same manner, I suddenly noticed a figure approaching from the nearby shrine. The first thing I noticed was the unmistakably flaxen hair and tattered clothing. Suddenly, I dropped everything and dashed as fast as I could towards the person.
"GLADION!" I yelled, leaping into the boy's arms. He put his arms at my waist and spun me around, a strangely warm smile on his lips as I peppered his cheeks with kisses.
"You did it, babe!" He exclaimed as he kissed my forehead. "I told you you'd be able to do it! I am so proud of you!"
"Thank you!" I turned and checked up on the party, making sure that everyone wasn't staring at us or something. Thankfully, no one had seemed to notice nor care about our exchange.
"So, how was it? How do you feel?" He asked with a sudden enthusiasm. I wasn't used to him being this talkative, but I figured he was just excited to see me.
"Well, I'm really happy!" I exclaimed. "Though I feel kind of empty. Like my journey is over..."
"Over?!" He snapped, suddenly regaining his usual irritated attitude. "Come on, (y/n), don't be silly. Your journey is just beginning! There are other regions to explore, Pokémon to see, and ultra beasts to discover! If anything, your journey is just beginning!"
"You're right," I nodded happily. After Gladion scanned the party scene once more, he suddenly grabbed me by the hand and started dragging me behind him.
"Hey! Where are we going?!" I yelled in shock.
"Shhh..." the blonde murmured, pressing a finger to his lips. We approached the bridge at which I first met Lillie, which was miraculously repaired. Gladion brought me across gingerly, abruptly stopping halfway across. He urged or face me, putting his large hand under my chin.
"Champion (y/n)... that does have a ring to it," he murmured, his soft pink lips inches away from mine. "Let me give you something worth your while."
And with that, he began to kiss me, the shining moon our only audience. I kissed him back, fully prepared this time. He put his arms around my waist, and I wrapped mine at the base of his neck. We stayed like that for a little while, before we were suddenly interrupted by a shutter noise.
"Huh?"
I turned around and noticed the rotomdex, flying nearby, it's usual u-shaped smile more curved than usual. "Bzzzzzt! What a lovely picture! Let's see what the web has to say!"
"ROTOM, STOP!" I yelled, looking down at my bag to notice that it was wide open. The Pokémon spun around in the air happily, seemingly unaware of my distress.
"Would you look at that? The comments are already flooding in!" I grabbed the dex, completely astounded at the hundreds- no, thousands of comments left on the non-consented photo posted mere seconds before.
"Aaaaa! They're so cute!"
"He's so cute I'm gonna die!"
"Who took this..."
"Young love... <3"
"She is so lucky!"
"Delete it now!" I ordered, my cheeks turning bright red. I turned to Gladion, noticing his face was very similar to mine.
"Bzzzt... too late!" The Pokémon buzzed, flying out of my arms. "Many other people have already reposted it! It's useless!"
"The web is for posting pictures of Pokémon.." I growled angrily.
"Oopsies!" The rotomdex giggled as it happily did flips in the air.
"STUPID POKÉMON!" I screamed, abruptly grabbing the dex and stuffing it into my bag. I returned my attention to Gladion, who was watching my angry outburst. "I'm really sorry..."
"Don't apologize," he said with a thin smile. "It's about time that we make it official anyways."
"What?" I asked quizzically.
"Well," he stammered, looking down at the ground bashfully. "I was wondering.. if you'd wanna be my girlfriend..."
Suddenly, I dove at him, the bridge wobbling beneath us as I pulled him into a tight embrace.
"What took you so long?" I asked happily, joyful tears forming at the corners of my eyes. "Yes. Of course. There's nothing I would want to be more."
