I managed to take on and complete the fire trial with ease, receiving my firium Z crystal happily. When I arrived on route 8, I caught a stufful and proceeded to challenge all of the trainers on the route.
"Time to go to the Pokémon center," I smiled at my Dartrix wearily. It was getting late, probably around midnight, but I still planned to keep on training. After healing up, I decided to battle some wild Pokémon in the tall grass.
We fainted many Pokémon in the grass, each chipping away at my team slightly. Suddenly, I found myself in a battle with a yungoos and my dartrix on its last few HP.
"Dartrix, use synthesis!" I cried, but it was too late. The yungoos had used quick attack, causing it to faint. The yungoos jumped up and attacked me, scratching my arms and legs. I felt my knees grow weak as I panicked and dropped some money. I sprinted out of the grass in an attempt to make it to the Pokémon center. Unfortunately, I could barely walk, so I instead opted for entering the nearby motel room.
"Help!" I cried as I flung the door open. I had never lost a battle before, and I felt ashamed that I lost that streak. Fortunately, I hadn't stumbled in just anybody's room. Gladion sat at the desk, reading a book intently. He turned to me, an irritated expression on his face.
"Get out," he barked, his eyes narrowing. I felt tears stream down my face as I collapsed over on the ground, barely able to stand. It became harder and harder to breathe, my entire body immobile.
"I said GET OUT!" Gladion yelled at the top of his lungs, though I could barely move an inch. My tears stained the carpet as I turned my head up to see him with my last bit of energy.
"I'm sorry," I whimpered. "I'm no good as a trainer after all." Before I could see his reaction, I suddenly faded into nothingness.
---
"Hey," a voice called as I slowly opened my eyes. Gladion stood over me, a concerned expression on his face. I reached out an arm to touch his cheek, which he quickly swatted away. Bandages covered my arms and legs where I had been scratched, a fresh change of clothes on my body.
"You feeling any better?" He asked as I sat up in bed, a surge of pain shooting through my head like a bullet. I winced and put my hand on it, Gladion rushing to my side. His face was a few inches from mine as he slowly eases me back to laying down. "I'll take that as a no."
"What happened?" I asked brazenly, the events from the night before foggy in my mind.
"You barged in around midnight," he stated with an annoyed tone. "And you passed out right on my carpet."
"Wh-did I?" I exclaimed, my eyes widening. I quickly sat up, bowing down slightly. "I'm so sorry!"
"hey, don't apologize," he ordered. Folding his arms, he let a small sigh escape his lips. "To tell you the truth, I'm grateful that you came to me in your time of need."
Grateful. The word echoed through my head. Did I still have the flower with me, or did I lose it in the tall grass?
I looked around and noticed my things set perfectly on the night stand next to me. A cup of water sat nearby, set out neatly. He must have been really worried, I thought to myself.
"Wait, don't tell me I slept in your bed," I said, guilt filling my body.
"Don't worry," he waved it off. "It's not like I was in there with you or anything."
"No, where did you sleep?" I pressed.
"I don't want to talk about it," he insisted. "Anyways, you look awful hungry. Let's go to the café."
"Thank you so much," I whimpered as I quickly pulled him into a hug. Caught by surprise, he stood there tensely for a moment before finally hugging me back. When we finally pulled away, I noticed that his face was bright red.
"What were you even doing last night?" He asked in agitation as we sat across from each other at opposite ends of the table. I took a long sip of my Tapu Cocoa before even considering a response.
"I was training up Dartrix, and then a wild yungoos made him faint," I explained. Dartrix sat near me and chirped sadly, thankfully now conscious due to Gladion leaving to heal up both him and the rest of my team in the middle of the night. I couldn't believe how nice of a guy he was, even if he put on this crazy tough face. "And then the yungoos attacked me too."
"Jeez," he scoffed. "You even have a brain up there? You gotta be more careful, and you should have healed him up when you noticed that he was a little injured. You're just getting your Pokémon hurt for no reason."
"I know..." I sighed as I stared into my cup. I picked up the neatly packaged lumiose galette sitting nearby and unwrapped it, breaking off a piece and feeding it to Dartrix.
"At least you're doing ok," Gladion admitted. I looked up to him and flashed him a warm smile, breaking off another piece and giving it to him. "However, you do have those cuts all up your arms and legs..."
"I can just put on the capris I bought at the apparel shop," I reassured him.
"No," he barked. "What about your arms?"
"I don't really mi-" I was cut off by the sight of him taking off his hoodie and handing it to me.
"Take this," he insisted. "I have a few spares that I can wear. It gets cold in Alola at night anyways, and just wearing a tank top won't cut it."
"Really?!" I stammered, slipping the hoodie on in front of him. It was slightly big on me, still warm and smelling like cologne. "Thank you so much for everything... I'm gonna find a way to repay you somehow!"
"Don't worry about it," he urged. "There's no need to repay me."
"I'll find a way," I insisted. I turned pink as I looked straight into his emerald eyes. "Thank you... so, so much... you saved my life..."
"Don't make me say this again," he stammered, looking away, "but just seeing your smile is enough."
