Good Times Gone Wrong

Ben and I walked back from patrol before sunset.

"Are you going to take a nap before we meet Red-eye?" I ask when we enter the room.

"No I'm going to go keep an eye on Karen." He said while changing shirts.

I shot him a look "Ben..."

"I know you don't like her but I'm the only one who can hear her connection to the skitters."

I huffed "I bet I could hear her too, I just never got the chance."

"Yea but you can't stand being in the same room as her."

"Or the same planet." I mumbled.

He smiled and hugged me "It'll be fine." I nodded and he took his gun and left. I laid on the bed and tried to fall asleep.

...

"Ashley wake up." I opened my eyes and saw Hal then I looked around and it is morning.

"Woah how long have I been asleep?" I asked wiping sleep from my eyes.

"All night I think."

"Oh. What's up?"

He smiled timidly "We've been fighting a lot lately and I wanted to try to make up for it by just hanging out, you and me."

I smiled back, I'm glad Hal is trying to make amends "Yea I'd like that."

I got up and left with him to get breakfast. While we were eating I looked around and realized who was missing.

"Where's Ben?" I asked.

"Oh he's taking care of Karen." Hal answered taking a bite of oatmeal. My jaw clenched and my grip on my spoon tightened and Hal noticed.

"I know you didn't like her before, but that's because you didn't know her."

"I don't want to know her Hal! I don't like her, never have, never will, and you can't do anything about it."

Hal put his hands up "Im sorry, no fighting today remember?" He said, I nodded. "Good," he started "So you won't fight with me when I say we're going to see her after breakfast." I shot him a look.

He shot me a look back then his features relaxed "Ashley it's only going to be for a few minutes then it'll be you and me." He took my hand that was on the table, then he let it go, "And you can tell Ben that I'm stealing you today."

We finished eating then headed down to the Psych room, reminiscing about old times. Hal opened the room door and I walked in behind him.

"What the hell?" Hal said. It took me a second to take in what was going on, Ben and Karen had kissed! I felt anger rage through me as Ben ran out the room and Karen collapse on the floor. Hal went to help her but I stood in my spot by the door with my fists balled and my teeth clenched.

Hal whispered to Karen but with my acute senses I could still hear "What did he do to you?" Hal asked.

"I don't know one second we were just talking then I felt this connection from him." She put her hand on her neck.

I snapped "You lying bitch!" I yelled lunging toward her. Hal caught me and pulled me back.

"You seduced him and you know it!" I tried to grab her but Hal had me in a headlock.

She stared me in the eyes and I saw an evilness in them that made me stop, "I'm sorry you think that Ashley," her voice sounds sad but her eyes tell her real emotions, "I know it hurts when someone you love chooses someone else, but I didn't seduce him."
