Bens POV:
We sat in a circle around Red-eye's son who was telling us stories of his home; we call him Peter. He's not Red-eye's biological son, but he told us they were assigned children to care for after they detached from the Espheni. Peter told us he was 56 years old, which was fairly young compared to the skitters' 200 year life span. He was the coolest and most down-to-earth skitter I've ever encountered. Even though he was older and wiser than us, he treated us like equals. Oh, did I not mention the other kids? Well, turns out Ashley and I are not the only ones Red-eye's been recruiting. Collectively there were over 100,000 followers around the world, but we stayed in small groups of 10 to 20 kids, so we could move around faster.
Iain, Ashley's old friend, found us and joined too, but I wish he didn't. I hate to admit it but I'm jealous of his and Ashley's relationship. They've been friends for years, and she told me that they even dated for a short time.
"Ben!" Ashley said snapping her fingers in my face.
I blinked "Huh?"
"Are you ready to go to bed?" She asked.
I looked around and Iain and the other kids were getting up to go to their tents. "Um yea." I said. She got up and held out her hand to me. I took it and followed her to our tent under the overpass. We entered and went into our large sleeping bag.
After a while of laying Ashley said "Thank you" out of nowhere.
"For what?" I looked down at her, in my arms and snuggled into my chest.
"For convincing me to see Red-eye. And, you know, for being there for me."
I smiled in the dark "I should be thanking you. You're the one whose kept me sane during this whole thing! You are an amazing girl, Ashley."
I kiss her forehead and she faces me. She grabbed my face in her hands and kissed me. I gripped her hips and brought her closer. We battled for dominance but I won. I flipped on top of her and balanced on my elbows.
"I love you so much." I said into her lips, making her smile.
She broke the kiss and looked up at me. She brushed a piece of hair behind my ear; I hadn't had time to cut it after she came back. I chuckled."What?" She asked.
"Usually I'm the one brushing hair behind your ear."
"Hehe, well your hair is so long." She lightly tugged at my hair, which almost covered my eyebrows.
"Yeah, I should find some scissors and cut it."
"No! Don't change anything, your perfect." She smiled at me and I blushed. I gave her a peck on the nose and rolled back over and laid down. She hugged me and I put an arm around her.
"Goodnight, Love." I said.
"Goodnight."

Ashley's POV
We walked out of our tent into the crisp morning air. I started to get goosebumps up and down my arms, so I rubbed them to try to make them go away. It worked a little, and Ben and I made our way to the meeting that was held every morning. We sat on a big fallen piece of the overpass.
"Hey guys." Iain said as he sat beside me.
"Hey." I said smiling. I looked at Ben, who ignored Iain and just looked at Peter.
"Ok is everyone here?" Peter asked looking around. "Ok, good you all are. Now as some of you know we're heading South to Charleston. It will be a long journey, but if our plan succeeds, we will all benefit in this war. And now to talk about the plan..." He paused for dramatic affect, "There is a government set up in Charleston, South Carolina, the first we've heard of, and apparently their population is growing rapidly. Our scouts have told us that the 2nd Massachusetts will be joining them in a few days, and we will be close behind."
