*Ben's POV*
I opened my eyes and saw my fiancé still asleep. She was facing me; I was holding her in my arms close to my chest. I twirled a piece if her long dark-brown hair in my fingers. My finger lightly traced along her cheek and jaw line.
"You're so beautiful." I whispered and Ashley's lips twitched into a small smile before going back again.
"Are you awake?" I asked. Her smile was enough of a reply for me.
"Have you been awake this whole time?" She opened one eye slightly then quickly closed it.
"Ashley, I know you're awake!" I laughed and she joined me, but kept her eyes shut. I kissed the side of her eye.
"Open your eyes, love." She still didn't, so I gently kissed her lips. When I pulled away her eyes fluttered open and she smiled again.
"I love your smile." I smiled back.
"I love yours more." She said in a raspy morning voice. She brought her hand up to my face and traced it like I had done earlier.
I buried my face into her hair and neck. "I love you." I breathed.
"I love you too."
~7 months later~
*Ashley's POV*
"How is it being back in your old job?" Anne stands by my desk.
"Boring as hell!" I sigh. Ever since Tom found out about the baby, he took me out of the front lines and put me back as a psychiatrist. Anne and I worked in the same unit, she worked with the new technology the Volm provided.
"Can you help me up?" I ask. Anne grabs my arm and helps lift me from my chair. My stomach is bigger than a balloon and it keeps growing, and so is Anne's. An on looker must find it funny watching a pregnant woman helping another pregnant woman stand up from her chair.
"Ready for lunch?" I ask.
"Yes, we both are!" Anne put a hand on her stomach and laughed.
"No Lourdes?"
"No, she's busy with work." Anne sighed. It had seemed like Lourdes was working non-stop nowadays.
"Ok, let's go eat then!" We walked to the cafeteria and grabbed a tray-full of food each. We made small talk until out lunch break was over then we went back to work.
I had a few patients come in, but I ended up learning how to use the new medical tech from Anne instead.
"Ms. Glass." A man said from behind us. We turned around and saw a guard ushering in Matt from the hallway. Anne and I sighed.
The guard looked between Anne and I, "Matt has detention again. He has to stay after school everyday for a week."
Anne glared at the boy, "Come here, Matthew." Matt stayed by the door. "Now." She hissed. He huffed and walked to her.
Anne turned her attention to the man, "Thank you for bringing him." He nodded and left.
"Matt, you are in so much trouble! Just wait until your dad hears about this!" Anne was beyond angry.
"You're not my mom so don't try to act like it!" Matt yelled at her. When the words sunk in Anne's whole demeanor changed, she looked so hurt, and here I am, just watching them yell at one another.
"Matt." I spoke up. "Come with me, I want to talk to you." I walked to my desk and he followed me.
"I know you're pissed at me." Matt said as he sat in the chair opposite of mine.
