Somewhat the Beginning (A Falling Skies Fanfiction)

The Weapon

We pull up slowly to a cavern. Tom, Anne, Hal, Maggie, Dai, Weaver, Ben, and I exited our trucks, grabbed our guns, and entered the limestone fissures.

It was so small and dark in there. It was hot, but the frequent gushes of wind sent goosebumps up my arms. I squeezed through the narrow walls, if we did this 6 months from now, I'd have a baby belly to worry about, but for now, I maneuver the fissure with some ease.

"We're almost there." Ben said behind him; the group and I were following him since he was the only one who wouldn't get us lost. Ben makes a right and the narrow fissure opens up to the side of the weapon's wall. The rest of the group follow, and Dai is the last one to enter the opening. He's carrying the object that's going to blast a hole in that wall. I'm not sure how it works, but Dai fixes it against the wall and we take cover. There is a large explosion and we rush into the new entryway.

"The bastards' had to have heard that." Hal said.

"So we better get these charges down quick! Dai, Maggie, Hal, to the right, we'll take the left!" Weaver commanded. We did as we were told and started lying out the charges on each leg of the machine. When we were halfway through, we heard gunshots. We turned and saw Dai held up by a skitter, he was trying to shoot at it with his pistol, but it didn't work.

"Skitters!" Maggie yelled as more came down from the rusty walls. The skitter holding Dai threw him against the wall, there was a horrible cracking sound as he made contact.The other skitter surrounded us and then I blacked out.

*Ben's POV*

I open my eyes and felt a sharp pain in the back of my head, I tried to reach for it, but my arms wouldn't move. I looked down at my body, and I was wrapped in wires and other random junk. I looked around.

"Ashley!" I called.

I heard her groan than lazily reply "I'm right here, Ben."

"Are you ok?"

"Yeah, I think so. Why am wrapped up?" Before I could answer Karen came into view.

"Hello professor Mason." She said with an evil grin. She was walking toward my father, and I was struggling to find Ashley. All this damn wiring is in the way!

"Karen." My father gruffly replied. "Is your master too much of a coward to show his hideous face?" Tom smirked.

"Quite the contrary, he's right here." Karen steps out of the way and the Overlord came out from behind the large number of wires and various tubes, then stepped back once again.

Karen stepped back into her place in front of my father, who I realized now was hanging a few feet in the air, we all were.

"Tom, I'll make this very easy for you to understand. You give me the information I need about the rebels, and I let you all go free."

"Don't listen to her Dad!" I yell "Shes just trying to-!" I was cut off mid-sentence when one of the tubes wrapped around my mouth all by its self. What was this thing?

Tom let out a low laugh, "Like I would tell you anything!"

Karen was not pleased. "This is not a humorous matter Tom!" She turned and then a skitter came from the wire wall and handed her a long rod with a blue glowing end. What is that?

"Remember this Tom? Remember the pain it can inflict?" She whispered.

"I'll never tell you anything!" My dad tried to keep his face strong, but it went away as she came closer to him with the glowing rod. She jabbed it to his stomach and I could see electricity surge around his body. I was trying to yell out, but no sound could be made with this tubing on my mouth. I heard Ashley shriek near me, and I finally saw her beside Anne. She had tears in her eyes and the wiring wrapped around her mouth like mine.

Karen ceased shocking my dad. "Shut up Ashley! Trust me, you'll get your turn." She said through her teeth, I could see Ashley's eyes widen in horror.

Karen walked over to Weaver and interrogated him for a minute before electrocuting him also. I bet she was getting some sick pleasure out of torturing them.

Then Karen made her way to Hal. "I've been waiting to do this for quite some time, Hal." She lowered my brother, took him by the back of the head, and kissed him. Maggie yelled, but once again the wires were there to silence her, and when Karen released Hal, he was unconscious.

She walked past my dad and moved on to Anne and Ashley. Oh no.

"Who should I start with?" She paced between the girl I love and the woman I see as a mother. This was truly heart-wrentching.

Karen smirked "You were pretty close to the rebels." The wires went away from Ashley's mouth and she breathed heavily.

"I'm not telling you anything." She is exasperated, I can tell.

She smiled "I've been wanting to do this ever since I met you, Ashley." She brought the the rod close to her, but stopped. She brought her ear to Ashley's stomach. Is she hearing the baby?

Karen confirmed my thoughts when she laughed lowly and looked at Hal, but then she looked at me and her expression changed. I hadn't noticed til then that I started crying. Karen removed the wires around my mouth.

"Is it yours?" She asked quietly. The continuos tears answered for me.

"What's yours?" Tom asked, looking between Ashley and I. Ashley let a few tears fall from her face.

I ignored my father, "I'm so sorry, Ashley. I-I shouldn't have let you come here." I sobbed.

"Don't apologize." She regained some of her strength and looked at my dad. "Tom, I'm pregnant."

"What?" His face contorted between surprise and fear.

"And Ben is the father." Tom looked at her and I with disbelief and a tear fell down his face too.

Karen let out a small sigh. "What a cute family moment, but I have matters to attend to." She went towards Ashley with the shocker again.

"Stop!" My dad yelled, and she froze. "I-I'll tell you anything, I'll tell you whatever you want to know." He said sobbing. Karen smiled, but then was knocked down to the ground by a skitter. We were released and fell to the ground.

I got up and ran over to Ashley.

"Are you ok, love?" I asked scanning her to see if she had injuries, and luckily she didn't. "Stay down." I commanded her, and I got up, grabbed my gun, and started kicking some skitter ass.

*Ashley's POV*

I sat under the wiring and I looked around and saw Anne. She was laying on the ground and I helped her get up. Then I heard another fluttering heartbeat. I leaned in closer and heard it in her stomach.

"Are you pregnant too?" I asked shocked.

She nodded and wiped dry tears from her cheeks, apparently it was very emotional for her too. We heard a loud screech and loud crunches. Anne and I struggled to walk over the wires and when we exited to wall we saw Tom towering over the Overlord, who was a dead heap on the floor.

"This isn't the end, Tom!" Karen yelled from several hundred feet away "You'll never win!" Then we watched in scared awe as she started scaling the wall in a matter of seconds.

"We have to leave soon." Weaver limped over. "Grab Hal and..." He paused momentarily "Dai, and let's blow this place to hell!" We did as commanded as quickly as possible and heard the weapon fall as we were driving about a mile away. We sighed in relief when the entirety of it collapsed.

A/N:

I hope I didn't confuse anyone too much with my changes, and if you were wondering, yes everyone else will still find out about Anne's pregnancy, I just thought it would work better if they found out about Ashley & Ben's baby first.
