The Truth

You woke up to your phone ringing.
Unknown.
You didn't answer, thinking it was probably some salesman or a prank call.
Not to long after, Denis woke up. Thankfully, but this time you had already moved into your own bed and given him a blanket so nothing seemed awkward.
"Good morning" you say to him smiling.
He yawned in response
"I've gotta go upload... I'll be back soon."'Denis said wiping the sleep from his eyes.
"Uh, can you even get into your house anymore?"
"I'll figure it out."
"Alrighty then"
Since you knew he would be a few hours, you decide to call Sophia and see if she wanted to do anything.
What a surprise! She did!
You had planned to meet up at a nearby park to hang out.
"Hey! Y/n!" She called
"Hey Sophia" you replied running over to her
"What's up?" She asked
"Nothing. So I need you'd probably advice on something."
"What is it?"
"Denis."
"Oh dear."
"What?"
"There's something I didn't tell you." Sophia said rubbing her temples
"What is it?"
"Denis is my Ex. "
You didn't really know what to think. Should you be happy that he was obviously single? Or should you be sad that he broke your friends heart?
"Yeah. It was pretty serious. We were together for about 2 years..." her voice trailed off
You could see she was hurt but you couldn't stop wondering..
"What happened?"
"4 months ago
It was the beginning of Fall. My favorite season. At this point, my mother abused me and my little brother Mathew Daily, and Denis was my only getaway. He was my everything. I decided to go and see Denis, he loves my unexpected visits. At this time, we've been dating for 2 years now, almost.
I completely trust him. And he trusts me. There has been some talk about the future, but not much. We're still young.
I make it to his house and don't bother knocking. I never do. I thought I could trust him. I walk upstairs and open his door to find the most horrific sight I had ever seen.
Denis. Naked. In bed. With my mother.
I immediately break down and they both wake up. My mother rolls her eyes and Denis knows he messed up. Big time.
"Sophia I-..."
"Save it. I don't ever want to see either of you again." I ran away. As fast as I could. I ran straight to my house, packed a bag, and packed Mathews bags. We left. Ran away. We somehow made it to British Colombia and I saved up to buy us the house were in now.
I meant it when I said I didn't want to talk to either of them again, and I never did speak to my mother, I think she's in jail. As for Denis, he got a job here and bought his house in my neighborhood. And that's why I never see him." Sophia said, almost in tears.
You could see she was hurting. She was such a sweet girl, she didn't deserve this.
You hugged her as tight as you could. She seemed to appreciate it.
You held back on telling her about Denis. You didn't want her hurting more.
About an hour later, you got a call from your mother telling you to come home.
It was already 2 and Denis still wasn't back yet.
"Maybe he won't come back," you think.
"What do I even think of him? He hurt one of my best friends. I don't want to be hurt like that either" you keep thinking.
"Just friends." You decide.
About 39 minutes later, Denis returns and greets you with a short side hug,
Those stupid butterflies.
What do you do? Do you ask him about it or pretend it never happened?

"So I met some new people today." You said.
"Oh that's awesome! Who?" Denis replied, sitting on your bed with you.
"A girl named Sophia and her little bro Mathew." You knew you were kinda lying but you wanted to see his reaction.
"Oh yeah, I know them.." Denis looked down and played with his fingers.
He looked sad and guilty. Guad. Yeah
"What's wrong?"you ask him.
"Oh it's nothing. Long story for a different time." Denis said
"We've got all day, Denis." You said.
He looked annoyed for a minute then relieved.
"Let's talk about it over that coffee I promised you." He said.
You drove to A nearby Starbucks and you both ordered, sitting down at a table.
"Long story short, I messed up. Sophia and I had been dating for a few years."
You pretended to look shocked.
He chuckled a bit and kept on with his story.
"Anyways, her mother had hit on me a few times. And then one night, she told me she beats Sophia and Mathew, and if I didn't sleep with her, she'd kill them. I don't think she was serious, but i didn't want to talks any chances. So like a moron, I did. I got stupid drunk and I slept with her. Sophia came in the next morning and saw us. And that was the end of that." He said, drumming his fingers on his coffee,
"So you still love her?" You ask
"Not anymore, I guess the feelings just died after awhile. " he said
At this time, you had only been living in BritishColombia for about 2 weeks, but you knew You really liked Denis. Hopefully he feels the same.
"Come on, I want you to meet somebody." Denis said, getting out of his seat and taking your hand, leading you to his car.
"Who?" You ask
"My best friend, his names Braden, but we call him Corl.
