Finale

I felt very light, and content, as I walked.

I didn't know where I was going, but something told me it was the right way to go.

I took the time to admire the flowers on my way, feeling no rush until I noticed a familiar figure standing beneath a large weeping willow.

He was waiting for me, I knew.

I was there in an instant, as if I had apparated.

"Sin, you're here."

"Call me Xan, Jin."

He smiled, putting the flowers to shame. "That's right, Xan. Are you ready? The others are waiting."

His crown, which had, last time I saw him, been shriveled and brown, now lay miraculously on his head, blooming beautifully once again.

I hesitated, looking around us for any sign that this wasn't real.

How did I know this wasn't a dream?

"You don't have to be scared, I'm here with you, Xan."

His words were a great comfort, and I felt a little more at ease.

I stared where he seemed to want to go, seeing the air was manipulated, waving unnaturally. It shimmered, and I saw glimpses of another world through the cracks.

My heart skipped a beat, and I looked down in shock.

Was that possible?

"Does this mean I'm dead? Then, how can I feel my heart beating?"

"In earthly terms, yes. But there's so much out there that we can discover. We're dead to them, but there's still much we can do elsewhere. You're newly dead, if you stay here for long, it will stop beating, but you will stay the same."

"But, If I go, there," I hesitated, looking at the portal with uncertainty.

"If you go there, everything will work as if you were alive on earth. But you won't have to worry about dying, not again."

I nodded.

"We just have to go.... elsewhere."

"I know it's confusing, but I promise you, we will all be together in our own paradise. This isn't the end, it's just a doorway."

I took a deep breath, trying to come to terms with this.

"The others, they will all be there?"

Jin nodded, assuring me that it was all okay.

"You promise that we'll be with them?"

"I promise, Xan."

I looked at the portal once more, watching it shimmer and twist.

"Are you ready?"

I grabbed his hand, holding it tightly, and followed him through oblivion, into our second chance.
