James' POV
I brushed past the people standing around in the corridor and made my way to my first class, History. I pushed open the door and entered, searching for a place to sit for my new term. I picked a seat at the table in the far right corner, closest to the window. I pulled my chair out and dropped down into my seat, I was then joined by Tris and Jamie. The classroom slowly filled up and my eyes floated up to the door, Ella slowly wandered in with Danni right by her side. She had a small smile on her mouth and was clutching her book to her chest, showing that she wasn't completely comfortable. My eyes followed her round the classroom until she finally took her seat.
"Considering you didn't want to take her, you can't stop staring." Tris sniggered, I turned to him and shook my head.
"Shut up, I've got no choice." He chuckled at me but we soon shut up when our teacher came in. To my surprise I actually had a decent teacher, Mr Jones.
"Morning class!" He cheered,
"Morning." We all mumbled back. Early starts weren't my thing and History first period wasn't exactly the best way to start my day.
"First thing's first, pick a partner." He began, I looked over to Tris but Jamie had already practically jumped on his lap and claimed he's his. I sat back in my chair and began nibbling my pen, I'd just wing it and work with the boys.
"Somebody from each pair come and grab this starter pack and get to it." Tris shoved Jamie's arm and made him go up before turning to me,
"You do realise you're going to get in trouble already." I shrugged my shoulders, this teacher would be no bother.
"James, who are you working with?" I snapped my head up and pointed at Tristan,
"I've been told Tristan is working with Jamie." He replied, raising his eyebrow. I sighed,
"Yeah, we're a three." I grinned, biting the tip of my pen.
"I'm not having threes sorry."
"Well I'm not working on my own." I noticed he was beginning to get slightly agitated already, that didn't take long.
"I figured out an even amount of numbers so everybody should have a partner, who else is in a three?" I looked around and Ella's group stuck their hand up. I raised my eyebrow and nodded,
"See sir, we're not the only people. Tell them off as well." He shot a stern look at me before asking one of the girls to get up and come and work with me. I chuckled lightly at the fact two of the girls suddenly became flustered, whereas Ella just acted completely normal. Her brown hair swaying nicely as she turned between them all, trying to decide on who should go.
"Come on ladies, I'm not that bad." I smirked, watching them all become a bit embarrassed.
"Girls you need to hurry up or else I'll pick somebody myself." I groaned as the girl who's name I didn't know stood up, she had jet black hair shaped round her face in a bob and was dressed like the rest of the stuck up girls in school. She slowly traipsed over to me and set her stuff down, I rolled my eyes at her as she scurried up to the front, grabbing a pack from sir and eye lash batting as she came back. I glanced over at Tristan who was smiling back at me, I was so tempted to shout at him for making me work with her but I kept my cool.
"So by looking at the pack we have to..." I stopped listening as soon as she began talking, I'd had enough of hearing her speak already. I stuck my hand up, accidentally punching her in the arm as I did so. Tris and Jamie fell into fits of laughter, however she began squealing like a pig and complaining that I'd hit her.
"JAMES! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" Sir roared, I bit my lip to stop myself from laughing. Every time he shouted the vein in his forehead got even bigger and a lot more vibrant. Tris clicked on too and before I knew it we were bending over, clutching our stomachs crying with laughter. Mr Jones didn't find it the slightest bit funny and sent me out before I could stop laughing. I pushed my chair back and stormed out, passing Ella and winking as I did.
I heard some commotion as I stepped outside but the door was slammed in my face before I could check what it was. I rested myself against the wall and tilted my head back, running my fingers through my hair and waiting for Mr Jones to come out and ramble on at me about how I should make a good impression on the first day. Soon enough I was joined by him, he didn't look very pleased and his face was red from all the stress.
"What do you think you're playing at McVey? It's your first day back and you're already acting up. Don't think you're such a big man showing off in front of your friends, they're going to be the people passing this course whilst you fail and have no qualifications to get yourself anywhere."
"I don't think I'm a big man, and I'm not showing off. I just don't want to work with her." I scoffed, signalling to the snooty girl inside the classroom.
"Well everybody else has a partner, is there anybody in specific you'd like to work with?"
"Tristan." He sighed,
"Somebody else?"
"Jamie." He sighed deeper this time,
"Somebody else please James, who I can trust you with." I ruffled my hair slightly,
"Fine, Ella." He frowned at me,
"Ella Blue?" I nodded,
"Deal. Get inside and sit down where Danni is and you can work with Ella." I nodded and burst back into the classroom, I nodded at Tristan before walking up to Danni.
"You're sat in my seat." I grinned, she turned to me and shook her head.
"I'm not, this is my seat. I'm working with Ella."
"Actually you're working with Hope, James is working with Ella." Sir butted in, she huffed and grabbed her bag before mouthing 'sorry' to Ella and taking my seat. I dropped down next to Ella after collecting my bag and smiling.
"You didn't have to be so rude to her." She scoffed,
"And you don't have to be so rude to me." I replied,
"Whatever." She mumbled, turning away from me. Getting her to be on my side was going to be hard.
