My sister has got to be one of the most amazing people I know. I mean, she's just been there for me in almost EVERY aspect of my life. I've been bullied, physically and cyberly. (Yeah cus THAT'S a word, apparently) and I used to be pretty troubled. But some things she's said to me, have stuck with me through out the rest of my life. (Well, I haven't forgetten them since she told me them, that is.) Anyway, so she once told me "Zachy, babe, if you're ever sick of people doing whatever they want to you or other people, stand up for yourself or those other people. Prove to them that you can't be messed with and that you're not afraid to do what's right, regardless of the situation."
Now, I may have taken her a bit TOO seriously, because the week after that, I broke up a fight at school between a friend and this guy who was raging... Umm, I went too far, beacuse I punched the attacker in the face when he turned on me, he got knocked out briefly and fell to the floor. I got suspended for the week. But the best part is that when she heard this, my sister didn't berate me for doing the wrong thing.
She just rephrased what she had said before.
"Baby, when I said stand up or yourself, I didn't mean hit someone in the head...
"I just meant that your going to sit back and complain about things that are happening around you, you're no better than the bullies and those idiots who yell to start fighting."
She rearranged it once more into this:
"Look; it's all fine and well to sit back and bich about things, but if you want things to change, take action and tell them off, be proactive, prove that you're willing to make a difference, or at least try to. You gotta make the difference yourself."
This, dear readers, is why I love my sister, instead of hate her, as is to be expected in families. She's been there for me no matter what and I'll always be there for her, too. So...
I guess, if you really want something to change, you gotta just get up, speak your mind and aim for something great.
Okay, maybe a BIT corny. But I guess that that's what I got from it. Oh well. Just thought I'd share that with you; If you wanna make a difference, you gotta do it yourself. It's just how things seem to work these days.
