Gwendolyn's POV
"It's not hay Xemerius, I fell down from the roof", I correct Xemerius who kindly started mocking my hair immediately when I elapsed back.
"You fell?!", Leslie shouts. "What happened?"
I sigh and show the folded paper.
"What's that?", Leslie asks.
"It's a letter", I say. "From Gideon. Read it." I give her the paper and Leslie opens it carefully, like it would be some kind of old and fragile parchment that crumbles when you touch it.
"But Gwen, there's a piece missing", she says when she sees the bottom of the letter.
"I know", I say. "The count has it."
Leslie smirks: "Some kind of an exchange?"
I look at Leslie pleadingly: "Leslie this isn't fun, the count is going to kill me and now I don't -"
"Woah Gwen, hold on for a second", Leslie interrupts me. "He's going to kill you?"
I nod. "He want's to be immortal or something, so someone has to die and for some reason he has chosen me."
"You're right. This isn't fun", Xemerius says from the corner. I look at him hanging from my bedside lamp with only one arm.
"So, how do we continue from here?", Leslie asks. I look back at her.
"Right now a warm bath is the only way I can consider", I say.
"I think you deserve that", Leslie says and helps me to get up from the floor.

I've never had a more relaxing bath. The way the warm water surrounds me and floats my hair is so friendly and caring. I take a little bit of foam to my hand and look at it. It looks like super soft combination of cotton candy and marshmallow. For a moment I wonder if it would taste like that too, but then someone knocks on the door with a little too much power.
"Gwen is it you? You have been there for half an hour already!"
I sigh. In the middle of all this, Charlotte kicks in and requires the bathroom for herself.
"Gwendolyn! Hurry up I have to leave to the exhibition with people from science course in twenty minutes!"
If I don't do anything she will kick the door down, I think and get up from the bathtub. I take a pink bathrobe from the chair and dry my hair with a towel. When I'm walking to the door, Charlotte beats the door again:
"I give you ten seconds before -"
"Okay okay, calm down", I say when I unlock the door. Charlotte is standing right behind it, she would've fell down had I opened the door quicker. Her ginger hair is on little waves today, and she has a white adult-like shirt which makes a huge contrast with her black jeans.
Charlotte walks in to the bathroom and slams the door shut. I hear how she locks it from the inside.
"You're welcome", I mumble.

Leslie has already left when I arrive to my own room. She has written some notes for me, but I can't find any interest in reading them, so they stay on my nightstand. Instead I take Gideon's letter and sit on the edge of my bed. I open the paper, and not until this moment I understand why Leslie was so careful with it. Seems that the light could shine through it, and I can still smell the wind in the thin fibers of the paper. Maybe there's even some Gideon still left in this, something reminding about him. For a minute I just look his elegant handwriting, how L goes up and down and how it continues to E. It's very beautiful, a little too pretty for a man, but for Gideon I couldn't imagine any other style. It's something he has had from the very beginning.
Dear Miss Purpleplum,
I suppose that I have told you about the count's plan, but I don't want to leave a risk that I haven't. The count want's to be immortal, and if someone in the circle of twelve wants to continue their own life to eternity, they have to steal someone else's life. And for some reason, he has chosen you for the one who doesn't need one.
The count forced me to elapse to 1773, and from here I'm working in his favor. I still have one thing to tell you. The count is doing
he can make a mixture -
but if you know anything about the count, -
If you EVER smell -
oversweet, bitter, -
And last but not least, don't elapse to 1773, the count will recognize you and fulfill his plan.
Mr. Purpleplum
I sigh. The most important part of the letter is in the hands of the count. Maybe he's reading the part right now, laughing and thinking how excellent and dangerous part he has in this show.
Suddenly my phone beeps an awful melody. I remind myself to change that, it has been my ringtone for too long. I reach the phone and check it. A text from Leslie.
Hey, did you read the notes I left on your nightstand yet?
I look at the notes on my table. I can almost hear how they sing and blame me for not reading them.
Uhm, yeah I did.
I take a pillow from another edge on my bed and put it behind my head when I lay down. Leslie has already sent a response for me in that time.
I think you haven't read them. But no worries, forget them. Throw them to the paper-recycling box or something. I have a better idea.
